Unhappy What is the % of tax you are paying in your province? Luxury tax?

Is going to be 13% as of Jan 1st 2008 in B.C. making a $42k 135i $47460 and luxury tax on top of that?:iono:

BC has a luxury tax??
Well, we just have the GST here in Alberta, so I suppose just the 5% as of Jan 1st.

We're not all that provincial here. We do have 6% sales tax.

There are whole bunch of taxes that feed the health system. It is by no means free but you potentially get a hell of alot more in return if someday you need it.

13% PST/GST in Ontario and that is in addition to the 6.5% import duty baked into the MSRP for any vehicle not produced in North America..:frown:

...or you potentially pay hell of a lot of money for others to use the program, and then because the services rendered are inadequate, you have to go into the private sector. Yep, sounds great to me!

If what you're saying is that the universal healthcare system is fundamentally flawed, I don't think any system is perfect Seve, not the Canadian one, not the American one.

8.25% is including local taxes. If I recall correctly from the last couple cars I purchased in Texas, the tax on the purchase was State (6.25%) only.

I wouldn't go bashing the Canadian system from your home here in the States when it comes to paying a hell of a lot of money for others to get health services. You are playing plenty for other people's health coverage living here in the States.

Right off the top, there are:
44 million US citizens who don't have health insurance.
12-20 million non-citizens living in the US who don't have health insurance.
Without insurance, they have to get their health services at emergency rooms at hospitals. Many are never able to repay their debts. Those unpaid debts get paid by everyone else who does pay into the system, including you. You pay that expense out of every monthly insurance premium payment you make.

On top of that, your taxes are paying for:
45 million US citizens who are on medicare
52 million US citizens who are on medicaid
7 million US citizens on SCHIP
34 million US citizens, who receive Gov't paid health care through Federal, State, or local gov't employment, or as dependents of gov't employees.
Various Local, State, and Federal health care-related programs that do not directly pay for the bills of individuals. Everything from gov't paid medical research to school food programs to prevent malnutrition in children.

Do you tithe to your church, make donations to health care-related charities (March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, etc), or buy products from companies who make donations to health care-related charities? If so, you are paying extra on top of that.

Unless you are one of these people in one of these groups, you definitely are paying for plenty of other people's heath care!

And when your insurance company tells you that your medical needs aren't covered, "you have to go into the private sector" and pay for it out of your own back pocket!

You might think you are lucky because your employer is paying part or most of your insurance premiums. But in reality, you could have (on average for the average US corporation) an 8% raise if your employer took all of the money they spent on providing health coverage to you and just paid it directly to you as a higher wage instead. Add that up with the monthly premiums you already pay, plus all the Medicaid/Medicare/income/sales taxes you already pay each month that goes to the health care of others. All the sudden 5-8% higher taxes on goods and services doesn't seem that outrageous....

Wrongola! You only pay the 6.25% state tax on cars. The 2% city tax doesn't apply in Texas.
