Amber turn signals! YAY!

Just wanted to mention how glad I am that the 1 has amber rear turn signals and not red like so many model redesigns that abandoned their original bright, effective, and safe ambers for near-invisible reds which blend confusingly with their brake lights and stay hardly noticeable, often causing drivers behind to NOT yield or simply honk at you when you're merging close.

It's one key reason for me choosing the 1.

I have to agree. I know many people hate the look, but if I had my way, it would be against the law to make cars with anything other than amber turn signals.

People could still buy all clear plastic and use the colored bulbs if they wanted to have a monochrome look.

I tend to agree, although I have no preference. I like the look of the tails without the amber enclosure, but when the bulb illuminates in amber it has a nice contrast. Not to mention is safer for obvious reasons.

The one part that bothers me is the front corners. I have corner bulbs on my car now that have a mirror finish, yet illuminate amber. The enclosure is translucent, and to me it gives the front end a clean, simple look.

I agree, I prefer the clear turn signal housing in the front and back, used with the silver bulbs that illuminate amber.

the amber reflector in the front corners just jumps out at you. sticks out and distracts from the design of the car. id much rather clear with a legal amber bulb.

Wow.

I didn't know expensive German cars even had turn signals.

Around here, communicating to others via turn signals is so.... blue collar or (the horror!) lower class!

^ so true.

it seems as though many people feel that purchasing a luxury car affords you the privelege of not having to use your turn signals.

I actually hate to admit it but i agree. I changed my tail lights on my 330i to the blacklines and was happy I go the amber back.

Yes, serious.

No need for turn signals in the 949 area code if your car is worth $60K or more. To use them to communicate would be so...common.

Think about the personalities, professions, and attitudes of Southern Californians who drive expensive cars. They are the decision makers, the ones in control: the lawyers, the business owners, politicians, the business executives, top management, etc. People who have earned their way to a higher economic lifestyle than most of those around them. These are people who live in a world of decision making. They tell others what to do. Unfortunately, courtesy communication via turn signals is less likely from wealthy, influential people.:iono:

I can't believe that some of you actually think that one's socio-economic status actually plays part in their to signal or not to signal debate. Absolutely retarded.
Some rich people are jackasses behind the wheel, but the same can be said for poor people. This whole argument is insipid.

As for the amber lights, I like 'em. Clear corners are tacky.

Insipid. Good word.

I see you live here too. Retarded? Sure, I'll give you that. Still doesn't change the observation that cars valued at over $60K are less likely to use turn signals.

On topic: I could care less how BMW did the lights. Fine either way.

I hate when people don't use their turn signals. I want to reenact the scene in Shoot 'Em Up every time someone fails to use them!

such a brilliant idea. making the turn signal a different color than the brake light so the driver behind you can differentiate faster/better. virtual beer (actually, since i'm not 21 I'll called it old fashioned soad pop:biggrin to whoever invented this:drinking:

I don't mind them flashing amber. Its just the ungly orange reflector in the front head lights that I HATE. The Euro headlights look 1 million times better.
