Rough Idle and RPMs Jumping on N52

2009 328i xDrive Automatic, has had a rough idle and rpms jump when cold started for all of ownership (1 month).

Just repaired Valvetronic Eccentric Shaft Sensor and fuel pressure regulator due to long crank issue. But rpms jumping and rough idle that slightly shakes vehicle still continue.

Any ideas on the culprit?

Something to worry about?

It always good to post the codes that you have. No one will be able to give you any real answers without them. Given you replaced the ESS, I’m assuming you have a means of doing so.

No codes. Previously I had P1017 but that was indicative of Valvetronic Eccentric Shaft Sensor.

You need to get a method of reading BMW hex codes. There are a two BMW DTCs that apply to SAE P1017. If you don’t, you’ll just be throwing parts at the car unnecessarily with little ability to get any help.

There are a lot of readers capable of this including INPA and ISTA on a computer.

I used a Innova 1000 OBD2 Bluetooth scanner.

What would you suggest?

ISTA with K+DCAN cable is the best—it is dealer-level diagnostic software. The software is free. The cable you can purchase for $50 from Bimmergeeks.

There are many other solutions, though. Just search and you’ll find them. What software to use is a pretty common thread topic.
