Don't get me wrong an M3 is an M3 and my dreamcar for the past 10 years.I have a lot of respect towards the M badge; But the 135i will be performing at "similar" levels with minor mods (Xede, Procede, LSD etc...) How many people will be dropping the M3??? How many will get very upset when a 135i doesnt leave their tail on the track??? It something to think about, and i wanted to know what your guys opinions are.. |

My take is that the m3 definately looks better.
My guess is 0-60 m3=4.5 and 135i=4.7. But it always comes down to the money. I can easily afford to buy a m3, the that's not to say I like throwing away money. I live at 4500 feet. NA cars lose 3% hp per 1000 ft. approx. That's 13.5% where I'm at. So at my elevation the m3 only has 359bhp. Whereas the oner, if it's like my 3er doens't lose any power. In fact my 3er put down 283whp stock on a mustang dyno at 4300 ft. Or about 320-325bhp. If you at elevation, I think it's crazy to spend the extra 30k. Even if your sitting on 1,000,000 cash. But that's from a performance standpoint. Now if your at sea level like most of yall are. Your just a "chip" away from matching the hp/lb ratio of the new m3. The m3 is bigger of course if you need the room. It revs higher which is always more fun. And it looks better, better status symbol which I believe we are all into to some degree. Personally, I couldn't justify it. Now if it came with a bi-turbo redlining at 8400 rpm with 450bhp stock, theyd have my 70k already. |

First I would bet the 135i will be closer to 3400 lbs. If I could afford one, I would get a M3. I realize the 135i #s are sort of close, but they are not the same cars. For my budget, the 135i is going to be an amazing car for me. If I had 60K to drop on a car, I would do so. Not only the M3, but 60K puts you in a whole other league with cars. There are others to consider besides the M3 for that price.
Look at the Vette. Always has been a big performer with big numbers and relatively low price tag. If you ask if I would rather have a Vette or a M3, or a Cayman S, or RS4, I would not get the budget car. I will buy what ever level my budget will allow. For me, the 135i is going to be an incredible buy. I will never mistake it for a M3. |

with the similar looks and the performance that is proportioned to it.. I'm gonna get the 135i. just so I can drive it around and still have some left over money for other expenses (mods)

I have one question: is the M3's steering wheel swappable to the 135?
I agree that they are different cars, but I also think that neither will have rear seat occupants very often. And therefore, I do wonder why people would do the M3, other that it's an M, assuming that the 135 with mods will be fairly comparable to the M3. But then I can't afford the M3, so I could be rationalizing, too. |

I did a pretty good job comparing those huh? I had the pics already in other articles so it was easy. I think so far I compared the 135i with 335i, 135i with E46, and the with the E92 M3 now

The first two shots of the 1er really dont do the car any justice and make it look much taller and narrower than the M3. Still, the M3 is the better looker. The comparison, though, will be true for any number of cars: if you really think that the performance and driving experience are worth extra, the M3 will easily satisfy but for those who dont want to spend 60 grand on a vehicle, the 135i will deliver more than 90% of the experience for a more than half the price.

Somehow I knew this question would be asked.
I like the new M3, but not to the extent I liked the e46 M3. The e46 M3 looks like it could tear a hole in your driveway. The new M3 just doesn't look BMW'ish for me. I know everyone will beat me up on this one. For example the hood bump.

It just doesn't do it for me. It looks like a 6 series in the last image.

Except for the hood, extra weight and relatively low torque I prefer the M3 in every aspect. That is of course not taking price into account.
I'd have to say thought, if I were looking for a car in the M3 price range I don't think the M3 would be first on that list. |

Tell me that looks ugly. Or any of these: I'll take the M3 any day over the 135i or 335i. If you read the reviews this car is a pure breed track car. The weight is a little decieving because BMW has 50/50 on this car also plus the carbon fiber on top to lower the center of gravity. The high reving v8 also makes it great on the track and its supposedly VERY tossable and has great handling on the track. |
