I hope the 135i can sound like this after the mod.

That sounds mean. Is that a convertible 335? or is it a 330? It looks like a 330 from the back, but it looks like it has a 335 badge.

Sorry, I don't care for that raw exhaust note on a street car. Sounds like the owner simply removed the mufflers. Something a little quieter, but deeper sounding would be good though.

I'd like something in the sound range of the G35

G35 sounds a little too artificial for me.

+1 Obviously tuned for a 'unique' note. Very artificial imo.

I bet that exhaust sounds like crap under load. Wouldn't want my 135i sounding like that. :iono:

It's a 335i 4 door.you can tell by the exhaust outlets on the rear OEM bumper.

It sounds great!

That sounds raw. I love it! I think for my personal car I might like it a little bit quieter though.

I just hope someone makes dual exhaust that exit from both sides of the car. Something similar to the E46 M3 would be the best option. Of course, then you would have to purchse the aftermarket bumper.

Has anyone seen an exhaust diagram of the N54?

Judging from this, it looks like the cats are located in the downpipes. I just hope there's not a second cat (like in the WRX) downstream.

I'm sure that in the 135i, those two streams are going to merge into one at some point. I just wonder how far back that occurs.

I'm hoping not before the muffler, that'd be the best compromise given the firing order and benefits of exhaust velocity/scavanging.

I don't know.
If it's not before the muffler, aftermarket exhausts will probably be more expensive - and heavier (since it will take more piping to make the exhaust).

If they keep the bends equal length until they merge, and they merge at an angle that's not too abrupt... and they merge into a pipe that's big enough to handle both streams, I think it'll be OK.

Here's my take on the exhaust:
1. There will be a second pair of cats in the center section, ala 335i.
2. The double pipe will be carried all the way through the system, ala 335i, but without splitting off at the rear to do the double exit.

Aaaahhhh! You've just shattered all of my hopes and dreams. (I didn't know that the 335i had a second set of cats.)

They do. There have been a few people that took them out and replaced it with a test (straight) pipe. It's good for a couple HP, does not throw a CEL, and still passed CA emissions. The N54 is a very clean motor. The primary cats on the header take care of most of the emissions. The secondary cats are worthless IMO.

Except, the primary cats are in the downpipes, which would be the most beneficial, horsepower wise, to eliminate and let the secondary cats do the work.

I agree with that. My Subarus had cats right after the turbo and the best mod I made was a catless downpipe. Cats in the dp kill response.

So looks like for optimal power, throttle response and sound quality, you'll need to do a TBE. Who in the BMW market makes the best (performance: least amount of weight, adds the most power) exhaust out there. Does anyone make Titanium stuff for you guys? I thought Amuse did for the E46.
