Costco buying program?

So in my almost daily conversations with my brother about this car, he suggested I look into the Costco buying program. He saved a good amount on his 335i and worked with a person at his local dealer. Also, he said it eliminated "a lot" of haggling. Unfortunately I live in a more rural part of CA and my nearest dealer may not have a Costco rep.

Any thoughts or experiences with buying through Costco?
Can you buy any model through Costco?
Will buying from Costco delay my place "in line" for one of these beauties?

Oh well I guess I could take delivery in Washington and drive the coast home to break it in.

I suspect that it's much like the Buying Programs offered by banks, insurance companies, and employers. They negotiate the deal for you. If you are a tough bargainer then you can probably beat the deal, but if you're not then this can be a good option (particularly on new and popular cars where the dealers don't want to come below MSRP).

Members...

I never used their service in the past because I could always haggle with Mazda, but BMW is new territory for me, so I may try it on this one...

Youd be surprised. Some dealers will work with you while others its completely worthless.

I work at Costco Corporate in Washington - the auto buying program is great if you don't want to haggle (like someone mentioned above, you may or may not be able to beat Costco's negotiated price with the dealer). I know that for a new Audi A4, the Costco's deal with the local dealer in my area stands at around $1000-$1500 off MSRP.

Goto your local Costco warehouse and pick up a brochure next to the membership desk for more information.

I am a Costco member. My experience with Costco's auto buying program was not too fruitful. I priced a Honda Odyssey through this program and found out that you can get a better price through Edmunds.com or any internet pricing quotes.

I bought a Odyssey from the quote I received through Edmunds which was cheaper by $800 than what Costco program was offering by the same dealer , same car.

Thanks folks, I will probably price it with costco and with my local dealer and see what happens. I am a pretty good haggler so it should be fun. This will be my first new car purchase, so I might ask for advise when the time comes.

There will probably be a buyer's forum once the 1er goes on sale.

My cousin in law got his g35 fully equipped (nav, all packages, and tons of other options) for a couple g's below invoice. He told me though that you just have to hold you're ground. He said the CA just kept coming back and forth for 2 hours trying to filibuster the deal lol. He also got his wife's Civic Hybrid for a really good deal through Costco also.

Ok so I know that it's not exactly what I should be comparing the 135i to but today I was at my local Costco and found a 2007 V6 Accord Sedan with leather and navigation for $25,400. MSRP was $29,950. So if that was on an Accord, how much do you guys think would Costco be able to bring down the price by on the 135i?

The only reason why Accords are selling so cheap is because a brand new generation is coming out in a few months. Dealers are desperate to move out the old Accords for the new ones.

True and a very good point. It's highly doubtful that we will be seeing deals this good on the 128i or 135i at least initially (unless of course you bring a gun to the negotiation).

I haven't yet and I don't plan too. As excited as I am about the prospect of a new 135i in the driveway, I'm even more adverse to the craziness associated with trying to be first. Of course YMMV.

So do you think that it would be possible if I wait about a year until 2009, then I might be able to get a good deal on the 135i?

I would wait around 6-8 months. 335i prices have cooled down a while ago. AND thats so-called M3 beater...remember...lol
