Rip off Britain
I had confirmation from my dealer today that BMW UK will not be offering the option packages on the coupe as they do with the 3/5 door.
This makes the coupe exceptionally expensive when comapred with the 3/5 door if you wanted a fully loaded car. Email from dealer: Just spoken to the Product Manager at BMW for the 1 Series models who has confirmed that the system should be updated during next week and has suggested I should be able to show you a complete list w/c 30th July! He did confirm that:

Yeah I was meaning the following option packages :
Visibility (xenon, adaptive headlights etc) Comfort (cruise, PDC front and rear, rain/light sensor) Luxury (boston leather/heated seats/wood trim) Audio (Hifi DSP sound, USB, CD changer, Prof radio) Media Pro (Hifi sound, Pro Nav, Bluetooth, Elec seats) Media Business (Hifi sound, Business Nav, Bluetooth, Elec seats) In the packages the options work out very reasonable but individually they are much more expensive. |

yes, the packages available on the hatchback are as you say make the options very reasonable to spec up the car ,I think we are seeing targetted marketing across different geographic consumer areas. E.G. in UK we are getting the car in the usual ES,SE and M sport ,in Italy again 3 specs
Eletta, Futura, and M sport, you would imagine that these 3 levels would be similar, but just to use one example the italian base Eletta comes with automatic climate control ,whilst our ES has got the manual aircon. The Futura comes with cruise and xenons as std ,no mention of these as being in our SE spec, so up to now it looks like not only are there no option pakages but each level is poorly equiped in comparison to other european markets. |

Its not just that, its marketing within the 1 series market.
the 123d msport 3 door hatch for example, all the packages are available. The Price difference between this and the equivillent 123d msport coupe is roughly £1500 (thats base without any options, fair enuff your paying the extra for the coupe looks). If you add the luxury, media pro, comfort and visibility packs to the 3 door it adds around £3600 to the price. The equivillent idividual options on then coupe (since the packages arnt available) works out at around £6800! This means the price difference is vast between a fully loaded 3/5 door and a fully loaded coupe. I find this quite bizzare as the actual options that will be added is no doubt the same piece of equipment regardless of body shape? It annoys me because I wanted a fully loaded car but I resent paying loads more just because the options are being installed in a different shape 1 series. So either its a fully loaded 3door hatch or a base coupe with few options..... decisions decisions |

I see exactly what you mean, and it does seem an odd decision by bmw ,especially if this car is meant to be an upward step from the mini, keeping buyers locked into bmw products and so keeping brand loyalty. It makes you wonder if some marketing guy has just thought that as this is an aspirational product we'll make em pay for it. It does seem to smack of contempt of future customers

Well my 123d msport coupe is finally ordered with delivery on 26th November 07.. :headbang:
It 2 days late only because my work fleet leasing dept is shut on Sat 24th  FYI The leasing companies should be able to quote for the coupe now... I also had a 24hr test drive in a 120d hatch and that flies.. so the coupe is just gonna look nicer and go faster |

I had wondered if BMW would price the coupe above the hatches- they did. It looks like you Brits are getting the shaft. Maybe it'd be helpful for the rest of us to see what is standard on the models you're ordering and compare that cost to what you're adding on with options.
Bundled option packages and stand-alone options are typical for N/A market also, but with less choices for interior trim and upholstery compared to UK/Europe. |
