pulling the trigger this AM. advice pls

Well I've decided to place a deposit on a 135i today. :roundel:

So far they have

1) agreed to provide me with an allocation number from their alloted cars
2) agreed the deposit is refundable
3) agreed to not charge above MSRP
4) agreed to put it in writing

Am I missing anything? :iono:

Thanks very much!

In all honesty I do not see how they can give you an allocation number? They will not receive March 2008 production until Jan 2008 (Jan Allocation). Allocation is released two months prior to production. In this case the car would probably be produced in April 2008 so that = Feb. 2008 allocation.

sorry i misspoke. i meant they agreed to give me a number in their personal waitlist. i.e. you are 1st, 15th etc to spec from our dealership. I just want to make sure that if I'm going to all the trouble to place a deposit this early that I am actually reserving an up-front spot when it comes time for them to place their orders. And not only that I'd like to actually know what spot I have.

that's reasonable isn't it?

thanks again!

Yes, very reasonable. Just make sure to get it all in writing and have the Sale Mgr. sign off on it.

Garage List
This is what I have so far....

1) As soon as the car can be ordered...I am first on the list (allocation).
2) A deposit is not required...I have bought many cars from him.
3) My dealership's policy is never to sell over MSRP.
4) A verbal agreement is all that is required.

If you are in the Chicago area, call Chris Roehm at Motorwerks (847-381-8900)

Sounds good to me. I put down $1000, refundable up until my car goes into production, at MSRP, and 1st on the list :headbang:.

Congrats to all you guys with deposits down on cars already. If I wasn't so concerned with first production run issues I would also have my deposit down (had a bad experience with first run production car in the past and am haunted by it to this day)

How are you guys putting down deposits if you don't even know what the MSRP is? Or did I miss a thread about the pricing?

estimates are broadly 25-30k for the 128 and 30-35k for the 135. actual numbers not announced.

i was originally in the market for a 335 and this will be less than that so i'm not too concerned.

man i feel like i just got on a roller coaster. heh.

I totally understand as I have been there myself, but by the time the 1er coupes land in the US it will have been in production for 7-8 months.

it's a new model and assuming the wait lists grow (pre-orders) then there isn't any other option really ... well besides just not buying the thing until early demand has subsided.

if you have a plan to avoid it please share! it's not like i _want_ to pay msrp.

Well Joel...

I hate to break your heart but I could make some more sales for my dealership huh? I WAS going to purchase a 335i coupe. It would have been a special order for me, back in Oct. of last year. I was paying invoice + invoice on my selected options. I went with the sport package only. I was OTD at 42xxx.

It wont be any different for the 135i at this dealership. You can PM me and we can keep correspondence. Once I find out more Ill let you know. I called them yesterday, requesting a date for a test car. I was told "hopefully" late fall early winter, with orders going in on early winter.

that's impressive especially considering the demand for that car ... but your dealer had to be making some profit somehow i assume.

Absolutely, I guarantee non of the dealerships get those cars for the quoted invoice. Im sure they get them cheaper than that. Assuming from maybe 2-5k lower. They are still making their money. There are several dealerships that I called that were trying to sell me at MSRP. I obviously blew them off. I will be going back to "that" dealership for the 135i. In fact, like I mentioned before, that was the dealership that I called and told to put me on the list for the new 135i. If your willing to fly or travel they will sell you a car as well.
