Dreaded Drivetrain Warning on a 2016 F10 with a Sad Engine

It is much more enjoyable to read the posts rather than to create them with issues. My 2016 528 which is currently at 61k miles and as I was driving it today out of my neighborhood for the first time in a couple months and aggressively, yet gently, pressing my foot to against the gas pedal merge into traffic...it stuttered, kicked, dry-heaved (twice I think) and then finally dinged at me and said Drivetrain malfunction: Drive moderately. Maximum drivetrain output not available

Had an appointment so drove about 10 miles and it really rumbled the slower I was and the lower RPMs. I tried it in Eco mode, not different, in fact worse, like having the same issue if the care was a Hugo. I made it to the appointment and on the way home went to my paddle shifters which seems a bit better to help hear and feel the engine really struggles 1-3 RPM and not as bad, but still noticeable above 5. driving in M1-6 moder with paddle shifters made it bearable as just using drive, ther engine really struggles to get going, like is in 6th gear or something

History of Repair (only one)

2019 at around 54000 miles
Last major service: Valve cover initially where the other stuff was found and 80% covered under a class action with BMW

valve cover gasket replaced -EuroEnvy AutoWerks
Timing chain - BMW Dealership (Class action around some timing clips)
engine mounts (both sides) - BMW Dealership
temp sensor - BMW Dealership

It's probably not the timing chain or guides, so that's good news! Post up what happened when you get the diagnosis!

Ok, so the diagnoses is one of the ignition coils was bad, so I am having all 4 replaced at around $450 by my trusted guy who just told me he is moving to alaska......oh well, at least I can get this thing fixed and sold before it cost more.....

Ignition Coils are quite easy to replace even on the N20! I would suggest to replace the Spark plugs and all 4 coil packs at once.
