How many would like to see a 4cyl. 1er coupe available in the U.S.?

I'd like to see a 123d coupe personally.

I want to see a 4 cylinder available also because it'll lower the price of the car and compete with cars like the Acura TSX.

If they bring the four-cyl out as a low-cost high efficiency option a year or two after the car has built cred with the i6 engines, I think they'll have mitigated the risk of a 4-cyl being a failure. At that point it won't be a question of the car being a failure - it'll already be a success - just about whether the 4-cyl engines have an audience over here.

I agree that if the 128i and 135i are successful then BMW will probably expand the range. Hopefully this will include both gas and diesel 4 cylinder versions.

Sure, a 120si would make for an interesting car using the same lightweight 2.0L 4 cylinder as the 320si. Especially since start/stop is only available on the 4 cylinder variant. The trick is that the gas mileage has to be significantly better than the 6.

I have no interest in a gasoline 4 cylinder but a 4 cylinder diesel would be interesting

A 4 Cyl diesel would be O.K., but let's not go below a 128i 6 cyl gas powered engine.
Let's keep this a premium perfromance compact - not a shitbox.

Yeah, I don't think a 4 cylinder would really go well with BMW's image in the States. They can get away with it in Europe because a BMW's just another car. Sure, it's a sporty brand, but they're about as common on the Bundestrasse as Pickup's are in Alabama Here in the US the brand has more of the "Ultimate Driving Machine" image and IMO that's got alot to do with the fact that they don't import the "Normal" models

I agree with Spudwest. Build up the brand, then offer more options 1-2 years from launch. I would consider a diesel for my daily driver.

They may, but the track record for premium brands and 4-cyl engines over that last couple of decades is less than spectacular. 318ti is a prime example... I think they should, but they may get cold feet.

Why would I not buy one? BMW i6 engines are among the best engines in the world and I'm partial to having a car with substantial power output.

Why can't we just get over the past and get on with the new? I mean, does BMW have to be the choice of the rich in America instead of the enthusiasts choice? I think the notion that having a 4 cylinder engine in a premium car is ass backwards, is just about ass backwards as anyone could even begin to think. I'm sure this has something to do with American vs. European logic in some respect, but I guess I'm of the minority that's just happy to be in a BMW in the first place, not because of the cylinder count and most certainly not because of the badge, but because it's the best damn car I can get away with driving on a daily basis without having to compromise much of anything else.

Of course not, but that image allows them to charge a premium over "comparable" competitors. When you think about it, the difference in build quality and performance doesn't always justify the price difference :frown:
