The title is generated in the U.S. upon reentry.

Jonathan is correct.
You can do your own titling AND registration when you return from Europe while the car is in transit back to the States, if you'd like, and save whatever bogus DMV fees the dealer may or may not add on to the price. Because once you are back here, the title can be handed over to you to proceed as you wish. |

THANKS FOR ALL THE ANSWERS !!!!
ONE LAST THING..... A KNOW THAT WHEN YOU RECEIVE THE CAR FROM THE FACTORY YOU HAVE ''TEMPORARY GERMAN PLATES'' FOR YOUR TRIP IN EUROPE. IF THE TITLE OF THE CAR IS GENERATED WHEN YOU ARE BACK IN STATES, WITH WHAT KIND OF PAPERS YOUR TRAVEL IN EUROPE. THEY MUST PROVIDE YOU WITH SOMETHING. YOU NEED AN INSURANCE EVEN FOR THE SHOR TIME THAT THE CAR CIRCULATES IN EUROPE AND WITH OUT A TITLE WHO THAT CAN BE POSSIBLE ? |

I don't recall what it's called but they do give you proof of ownership when you pick up the car.

I had a discussion today with the dealer about the EUROPEAN DELIVERY details and he told me that I have to pay 16% TAX ( VAT ), Requirements of the Bavarian Government and I will take this money back when they stamp my papers at the customs before the car goes to the ship.
Is that true ? |

I don't profess to be an ED specialist but I think that your dealer is misinformed with this VAT. You pay for the car before you leave the US - approx 14 days (sign finance or lease papers or pay cash). |

c'mon, these dealers need to start reading threads on e90post and bimmerfest if BMWNA won't give them any info. In about thirty minutes of reading, they would be experts and would not misinform customers.
In summary, you buy/negotiate the car in the US with the euro delivery discount just as you buy it off the lot. They order it, you pay (excluding all sales taxes, registrations, etc.) for it two weeks before going to Munich after the car is produced (~two months). Then drive the car with tourist plates for two weeks free insurance or pay up to six months if you want more. You can even just drive it straight to Harms for immediate drop off. You then pay all local state taxes, license fees, etc. when the car gets delivered stateside in about six to eight weeks at your DMV. |

Find a new dealer or CA

I just returned a week ago from doing a European Delivery. Things to note: 1. BMW provides the best insurance you can find. 100,000,000 euro liability and full collision and comprehensive coverage with zero/no deductable. 2. You are provided with a visitor plate and temporary registration. 3. There are many drop-off locations across Europe and the process takes only 15 minutes. 4. When picking up the vehicle in Munich they are very helpfull and provide you all the paperwork you need. Truthfully, you don't have to do a thing. They take care of everything. BMW has done an excellent job with this program. The insruance covers everything. If the car has ANY damage, it WILL BE FIXED. I managed to damage my bumper and it wasn't a problem. They recorded the damage and my BMW center will repair it. Bottom line, ED was a great experience and I would do it again in a millisecond. A dealer that has a clue obviously helps. And, you save a bunch of $$. |
