Will initial 1 Series Coupes in US be 2008 or 2009 models?

Like the title says. Some of the souces indicate '08 while others indicate '09. The press release does not state explicitly which model year the initial cars will be. The press release did say:

"All 2008 BMW passenger vehicles are covered by BMW’s excellent Limited Warranty"

Do you guys think this is enough to imply that the initial models will be '08s? It seems that BMW spring releases (i.e. 2006 3 Series Sedan in Spring '05, 2008 5 Series in Spring '07) usually take on the next model year designation.

I hope 09 because then you wouldnt hear about the new improvements to the 09s after you just bought your 08 (a la R56 MINI Cooper).

By the time it gets to the US it will be a 2009 MY.

From BMW AG's website: "In November the new BMW 1er Coupé comes on the market." BTW, This is for the European Market.

BMW NA never jumps a year ahead of the European model, if the car is launched in Europe during either the 1st or 2nd quarter of the year then it is the current year, otherwise if the launch falls within the 3rd or 4th quarter - as is the case with the 1er coupe in Europe- it will be the next model year. So when the 1er coupe arrives in the u.S. Spring '08 it will be an '08, as it will be in Europe.

I feel like they might do what they did with the R56 MINI as well by releasing it as an 08 in Mar. 08. But on the plus side you only need to wait a few months for the 09 improvements then.

Sorry, but you are incorrect.

Ex. The E90 325/330 began production in Feb. 2005, released in Europe March 2005 and was considered a 2005 MY in Europe. The US release was in May 2005 and it was considered a 2006 MY.

Lastly, The recently facelifted 5-Series which was released this past April is a 2008 MY.

Garage List
They cant legally sell a car as an '09 until January 1st of 2008. There ca n only be a 1 year gap maximum

So the Euro cars will be 2008's and im sure the american version will be too. But who knows, since they are releasing the car in the US in the spring of 08, they can leagally call it an '09, so they might just do that.
