TME Fuel Filter and Water Separator kit AAR2649

Has anyone installed this on a 328d? My concern is the 1 micron and if that will interfere with the flow rate.

Thoughts?

I have this kit sitting on the shelf in my garage. I purchased it when my car's HPFP exploded and was not sure if I was going to get a new fuel system covered.

This filter's intended use case is to help ease the pain that comes with a CP4 failure. When the CP4 fails, it sends metal shrapnel throughout the entire fuel system, requiring everything from tank to injectors to be replaced.

If (when) this occurs, you can use this kit to get away with not replacing everything. This secondary filter sits in between the primary fuel filter and HPFP, so my understanding is you only need to change out the HPFP, high pressure lines, high pressure rail, and injectors (i.e. the pump and everything downstream of it). The shrapnel left in your tank and feed lines should get caught by the 1 micron filter and not make it to your new CP4 and injectors.

I made a post about this product on the NABDOG FB group, and the general consensus seems to be this product may not actually do much to prevent a CP4 failure. If water separation is what you're after, the 1 micron filter that fits N47 cars does not support that. I checked the manufacturer's site to see if they offered a filter with similar dimensions and thread size that does, but I couldn't find anything.

I think TME does or did offer a 3 micron filter that has water separating capability, but I'm pretty sure that's only for M57/N57 cars. The 1 micron is the only option for N47 cars due to space limitations. I, like you, was also worried about low rail pressure, which is why it's still sitting on the shelf in my garage.

I too am considering this kit for the peace of mind protection for diesel HPFP failure. You shouldn’t experience an appreciable reduction in flow that would be detrimental to performance if the filter is changed in reasonable intervals.

If anyone wants a kit let me know, mine is still sitting on the shelf and I might as well sell it, not sure if I will install it...

If they don't have a water separator available for the 328d, it's essentially false hope. It is water contamination that takes out these HPFPs. Not sure when / where in the diesel world it was decided that the water separator filters were no longer needed. My old old Jetta still catches water in the factory water separator.

That said, one could easily substitute this filter cartridge setup with one that has a drain valve at the bottom, no? Fab your fuel line hook ups and you’re good to go.
This filter is 2 microns but you get the idea:

Or just swap out the filter cartridge if you want the TME setup. The TME filter is not proprietary, so surely a compatible cartridge with the correct thread pitch/diameter is out there:
