I’m always one for more choices, but don’t see how that’s a “cheap” move. was the closest or furthest distance marker removed? maybe all weren’t needed. personally, I always choose the closest which is still plenty of reaction room for me

Maybe annoying to lose the option but I would be surprised if it was cost driven. |

I get it sucks... but why it is "cheapening" - I see no cost saving potential here
But I do hate they move the adjustment from steeringwheel button to settings. I get it the system is much smarter than 45e and more adapted to road and traffic situation, but I do like to do some micro-adjustment |

This is not related to 50e specific, just a general software change.
Also since it's all based on algorithm of the software, having options 1/2/3/4 and option close/medium/far isn't really cheapening. A Thai food restaurant having 3 or 4 spicy level doesn't really imply one is better or worse than another one. The numbers also only implies the relative spice level of a specific dish at that specific restaurant at that specific time. The same restaurant with the same dish and same start level, you may still get a different cook working on it and get something different. That's equivalent to the car getting a software/algorithm update. It's just a way to convey your preference, and in this case having 3 level is probably better than 4 actually, since 1/2/3/4 is just less intuitive and provides nothing other than fake sense of control comparing to close/medium/far. |

I just hate how back doors don’t have comfort access…. That’s a huge loss, at least for me, as I often use back seats for bags, putting kids in etc

Cheapening as in removing previous capabilities.
I find the closest range is now 20-30% further away leaving gaps that are filled by other drivers. It also doesn’t accelerate as fast to keep up with the car ahead. The 45e is a fantastic luxury plugin hybrid with many useful features which I miss on the 50e. |

Most of this seems a bit petty at least to me. I’m not trying to pick a fight or brush off anyone’s personal desires but much of this is personal preference. For example we have our Cayenne set to open only the driver's side door for safety reasons. When my wife is with me, being the gentleman I am, I walk to the passenger door first and open it for her. If we have backseat passengers (rarely) I most often click the fob twice. Or the Cayenne rear doors have entry and drive. I have adaptive cruise set in the mid range for distance. To each his/her own I guess. I’m not particularly enamored with the interior changes on the ‘24 model year but I have a X5 M60i in the que for a week 32 build.

Now I dont have my 50e yet ... but reading the manual, it seems to suggest there is also a automatic adaptation of distance setting (situational distance control) which will change depending on other conditions such as poor visibility. Is this new or has this always being a option?

Having the rear doors open and the settings for cruise are a matter of choice, in the pre LCI you had the choice now you don't that's the problem. Like dropping the seats from the boot with levers that was removed on the pre LCI, some people used them but others don't but at least there was a choice. If you are in the boot and want to drop the seats you now have to open the rear doors on the fob or by going to the front doors and then dropping the seats from inside, a lot more difficult than pulling levers in the boot.

yes, it is definitely personal usage. I use the rear door unlock everyday, multiple times day. Can I live without? sure. but it is a major inconvenience. Cruise steps, I don't mess with it often enough to care yet. For rear seat fold latch, I don't fold rear fold because I have two car seats there, so completely doesn't matter to me.

The closest distance is never close enough. I think 3 wouldn’t affect me at all. But I see your point. These are car lengths I’m told. So now more 4 car length? That sucks. |

Clearly adaptive distance settings need to include a "tailgate" option. This too would be adaptive, varying proximity to the vehicle ahead based on the smallest bumper sticker (yes, I know, we don't have those on BMW's, but we're talking about the lesser vehicles blocking the left lane we live in).

For that prices increases and category of cad they should be adding features not removing them. I mean cars half of he price have it standard on all doors. Similarly rear climate controls, reclining seats, etc etc… this is just poor form for BMW to remove from X5… I mean even X3 had an option for adjustable rear seats, they don’t even give for X5s

They aren't car lengths, or any specific lengths for that matter. The distances are set depending on your speed. In other words the closest setting will result in your vehicle being closer to the vehicle in front of you when you are traveling 30mph than if you were traveling 75mph.
