no this is nonsense... the m50i will be a version of the b58 w a hybrid
bmw is not putting anything v8 in an x3 and there is no other six cylinder ice engine the m50i may touch 400hp but probably nod

///M stands for money now. By slapping that badge on their cars they’re able to charge more and people pay it. Of course there will be a m40 and a m50 based on what they’re doing with other models. The x3 is basically the old x5 and with this model it gets even bigger so that makes it even more an x5.

unless the m40i becomes a top of the line B48 4 banger and the M50i becomes a top of the line B58... either way, there are no new engine options and the X3 will not have 2 6 cylinder options... that would shock me

M40 could be the b58 and m50 be the b58 with a hybrid. Seems easy enough to market

sure... but do you think either option would offer over 400 HP? I doubt it given the X5 was just released with a new B58 version with 375.

Any size increase by itself is a non-starter for me. The current G01 is as big as I can drive in a crowded metro area and have hopes of finding a parking spot. Also, in an effort to stuff more cars into the local parking garages, the parking spots continue to get narrower. If I park in one of the local garages now I can barely open the door and literally need to squeeze in/out of the car.

Not sure why automakers are making cars bigger and bigger, I also lived in a metro area where the current G02 is probably the best size for downtown or tier 1 crowded city in my opinion, it's big but not huge. However, it's already hard to find a parking spot in a bumper to bumper parallel parking streets.
Has anyone here been to or from Asia? I went to serval Asian countries in my life and saw numbers of X5, X6, X7 driving within 1 inch margins both sides on small alley 🫠

If that's the tendency of how human body goes, then guess increase the overall size makes a lot of sense 😂

As a purist, I hate the direction BMW is moving.
The new X1 m35i or whatever it’s called, it’s everything that is Wrong with BMW (doesn’t matter if it’s good or not)… it’s a FWD platform, and slaps M badges on everything. With that said, I understand why they do it from a business perspective. They are selling more cars than anyone, they are a leader in these “performance SUVs” … (which is another trend I hate but I digress) they are making vehicles people are buying. SUVs sell, M badges on everything sells. It ruins the meaning on an M just like an AMG badge has been butchered (see the s63 and it’s little 4 banger engine, don’t care about the HP or numbers on paper) Making a car lighter with less HP is always better than some heavy 4500lb top heavy SUV with 500hp… but HP numbers go up and the average person drools over it… yet, driving a 5,000 piece of metal compared to a light 2500 or even 3000lb car is a different experience. No one cares about that though. The x and x5m are cool, but I’d rather have a regular x3 or x5 and a sports car like m3/3/4. I understand it everyone can own multiple vehicles and a big heavy “performance” SUV is the “best of both worlds” as many justify… I get it. People want big, lazy/self driving, high efficiency engines. Shows most consumers don’t care for a good driving car. This forum and people treating their M40is like a m3 is just another example of people as a whole ditching cars in sedans/coupes. Everyone drives a crossover/suv. People claim on being able to see better.. wouldn’t need that if we were driving cars… I’m a car guy. They handle 100x better are more sporty, etc… but my opinion doesn’t matter. I like my m40i but am also in the market for an m3 I don’t need my suv to have 500-600hp… like, why? More HP is cool I suppose and hammering down a highway is 98% of normal driving for most normal people, so I get it… but I hate it. Cars get bigger due to safety features, and all the damn tech and screens and wiring in these cars. Go google wiring from cars not 10-20 years ago,,, and look at todays cars. We all drive computers on wheels. I hate the automotive trends in the industry. Touch screen everything is a safety hazard. I enjoy driving and don’t need my car to drive for me so I can text. I don’t text when I drive anyway unlike most. Electric cars are a scam. They are “fast on paper” but all drive the same with their instant torque and lifeless no character driving style. Our infrastructure and electrical grid can’t handle fully electric cars. We can’t power our grids now - look at all the blackouts, yet electric cars are here to stay. Hybrids are better generally, Not against the environment but there has to be a better way. But here we are. I hate it here. But, nothing will change and my opinion doesn’t matter as I am definitely in the minority on this and understand that. I don’t care that new automatics are .06 seconds faster and hate you can’t get a new regular 3 series without a 3rd pedal and real clutch. I’m keeping my e90 with clutch and hydraulic steering until the wheels literally fall off it. But it doesn’t matter… now get off my lawn! End rant. The G80 feels wildly different than an F80 and if you go on G80 post, it turns out over 60% of buyers are brand new... this is their first M car... so they will never experience a lighter, RWD, less insulated M car w a DCT or 6spd... and they don't know any better at all. I drove a G80 and I thought I was in a slightly lowered X3M... i kid you not.
