Darn, I'm missing it. Thank God for Sky TV Remote record. Its on BBC Scotland at 10 tonight.

Just wish I bought some Porsche shares 10 years ago when I had a chance. Were just too expensive for me at the time. Would have been worth the stretch in hindsight

To be honest I don't much care for the Porsche business strategies. so long as they carry on making fantastic and beautiful cars

Thing is Porscha, without those business strategies, the morals of which we could discuss endlessly probably, Porsche could well have gone bust in the early nineties without the new management taking the gamble they did.

As for the hedge funds, seems to me the 'hedge people' come across as being humilated by being played at their own game.

The holding stake Porsche now have in VW and their ultimate goal of takeover will give them access to massive R&D and technology VW currently have, ensuring that us mere mortals can continue to scrimp and save to buy a Porsche lol.

The 968 produced from 1992-95 was the entry level model replacing the 944.

The Boxster 986 started production in 1996.

Sure both models contributed to a change in the companies fortunes.

It was defo the Boxster, its has been well documented many times.

Also the MASSIVE success of the cayenne has helped.

But heres a question without the financial wizardry, would the Boxster alone saved the company??? then again who cares. All i know is when i can get a 997 turbo in good nick for under 50k im having one.

I wouldn't say many 968 were sold you dont see many about.

Boxster yes certainly and the somewhat controversial 996 too. As people who weren't that into Porsche bought them more than the 993 as for Cayenne I don't doubt that for a second! You see So many of them, I don't like that but I suppose it's of the times.

Bollox. It was the the focus of 924, 944, 968, 928 which took Porsches eye off the 911 ball. They believed that a front engine strategy was the way forward and forgot their Unique Selling Point = 911. As soon as they canned the front engine cars and concentrated on the 911 everything moved forward. The introduction of the 986 Boxster really started them on the path to recovery as a lead in to the Porsche range. 911's are so profitable and the aspirational icon. More so since the introduction of the 996. The aircooled purists hated it, but there has never been more popular version of the 911. The Cayman and Cayenne have cemented their range and price points. Both have become more successful than they had expected. The Panamera is a touch late to the party (due to current economy). It will have many 'ugly' jibes as the Cayenne has had. But I bet they will sell at least to expectation if not beyond.

As for VW there has always been a Porsche/Piech family connection. Porsche already uses VW for joint research. Original Audi RS2's and 4's were Porsche engineered. The Cayenne bodies are built by VW alongside the Touregs.

The takeover of VW by Porsche is inevitable
