335i - remote opens sunroof, but doesnt close?

Hey all---

So, on my 335i I noticed I can open all the windows and sunroof by holding down the open button. BUt holding down the lock button doesn't close the sunroof??? I found that odd.... there's so many more situations where you want to close your windows and sunroof with a button then open them...

is there a way to do this?

Not with the remote. Pull the key out of the remote fob, put it in the driver's door lock and turn to the 3 o'clock position and hold it there. The windows and the sunroof will close.

Outside of the US, you can do this with the fob. I assume it is a liability thing here.

Instead of using the key from the fob you can just hold your finger on the door handle if you have CA!

That's infuriating to learn. Is there any chance in hell of having that behaviour changed with a flash of some kind?

Let's assume for a moment that I don't give a shit about how the DOT wants my car to operate. How can I fix it?

I just love when I hear things like this. Now I am curious what the logic was behind being able to open all the windows and sun roof holding the button, but only close the windows and not the sunroof holding the lock button.

There is some stupid brain dead logic for this one especially since it seems to work in Europe. and oh why does it work with the key.

Yes there are fixes for this kind of stuff, there is post somewhere there is a module to can buy that changes how the lights and door locks and stuff work, if I remember correctly

The European BMW drivers can do this. American drivers cannot and there is no way for BMW to program your car to do this, I've asked about it many times and every time the techs over here shoot me down. It turns out that the anti trapping feature, specific to North American models, which is programmed at the factory prevents us from rolling up windows using the key fob.

Weird, since CA-equipped cars can do it via the handle ridges. Don't we have anti-trap, too? This really does seem like "turned off" feature, rather than an incompatibility with anti-trap.

It's nothing more than an anti-lawsuit feature. This is in place to prevent some Darwin award candidate from decapitating his progeny by closing the moonroof from across the parking lot, then suing BMW.

Kefler, I have this, and I love it. Takes less than 15 minutes to install and works perfectly. Mirrors fold every time I lock the car, and if I accidentally leave the sunroof popped and it gets cold outside I just have to hold down the lock button and the windows will all go up. It also automatically unlocks the doors when you push the stop button. It's excellent.

And you can turn it off with the blinker stalk so when you take it in for service, the dealer never sees it

I also assume that the US is sometimes stupid like having to be 21 to drink... That's all I can think of US being stupid right now lol. Other than that with me.

Wow, how does that work with the blinker stalk? Also, if you really had to remove it physically from the car is that possible?

Doesn't seem like this is something the dealer would care about unless you have a problem specifically with locking/unlocking or windows, etc..

You hit the unlock button on the fob and then hit the blinker stalk down (where it will blink 3 times) and it will go into programming mode and the lights will blink going through the settings. It's pretty cool.

If you really had to remove it, it's really simple, but the wire taps will still be there.
