BMW shortages

Placed an order for my wife's fully loaded 2024 X5 4.0. Initially, I was scheduled for week 19th, and because of the shortages, it was pushing me out until August. I changed it to X5 M60 and ironically no delay on that and was able to lock in week 23.

Here is a list of the shortage items.

Thanks for sharing this. Odd 50e not listed. Many of us delayed with it on order.

We see huge boats full of BMWs leaving Charleston often. They have a parking lot with only X model BMWs big enough to put 6 big dealer lots on the space. It's usually full of X model BMWs most all the time waiting on the next boat. We heard they are all going overseas. Probably more profit. I'll keep an eye out and see if that changes.

Why would it be more profit? Unlike the X3 that's also built in SA, the X5 is only built in SC for the US and other major markets (besides China and I think India). It's not like they're holding production from the US to ship elsewhere.

So yes, a parking lot full of vehicles only produced in one place waiting for a boat makes sense. BMW isn't going to waste money on shipping expenses by not sending as many vehicles as possible at one time. That also means our brethren overseas may have to wait a little longer if their vehicle misses a boat.

I can tell you that in Germany it started about two weeks ago that people were asked to either remove soft-close or have their X5 delayed until the end of '23. It's still not 100% clear if this affects all models though. Also 22" have been mentioned from time to time. (Which can be ordered with any model in Germany.)

My European X5 is also made in the Spartanburg, US. And the base price is 15-20K more than the US price. And 1 USD is almost 1 Euro. Options are also more expensive than in the US.

I have also soft close and 22”. Last week dealer said production was 1 month earlier in June and everything was available.
Only iAS isn’t available.

Yes my fully loaded 50e (except for B&W) is 115k€ before taxes in Germany and would be a cool CHF 138k before taxes in Switzerland. So that would be $127k/$156k respectively. But you can expect around 8-13% discount on those right now. And the orders don't even get preferential treatment in terms of production slots for that. If anything EU orders are being produced A LOT later than US orders from what I gathered from EU/NA forums.

Same here I called my dealer last Friday and he said my delivery is now binding with first week of August and didn't mention anything in terms of availability. But then again he also said he knew nothing about availability issues of 22" rims while others in Germany couldn't order them and the US can't order them at all except for the M60i. So I take everything my dealer says with a huge pinch of salt.

It might very well be that this is limited to the lower models and that the guys being asked to cancel soft-close from their order ordered a 30d/40i.

€dit: Nevermind just got confirmation that one of the guys on the German Forum was told that his M60i would only go into 112 now if he would cancel soft-close, otherwise he's looking at late '23, possibly '24.

I would wait until late ‘23 or ‘24. I don’t buy a 125K car to get options cancelled.
Production would be mid june and for the moment I haven’t heard anything about cancelled options.

OP post fits in with UK market in that 40i LCI isn't on UK configurator but 30D, 50E and M60i are.

I would maybe cancel as I'm not seeing myself waiting almost a year on my order but also wouldn't want to get a car with compromises. (Which it sort of already is with IAS not being available.)

I already made that compromise because my 45e has IAS. I will not make another compromise. Then I’m better with my also loaded 45e.

My UK bound x5 50e is built and has been stuck in QC for over a week, probably due to a shortage of something somewhere. I haven't got any of the shortage parts listed above so not sure what it might be

Not trying to crash the party but people in Germany were usually informed as soon as it would move from 111 to 112, so for me with WK24 scheduled (allegedly) this would be another 2-3 weeks(?) out. The only status you are mostly safe with seems to be 150.

If it’s any consolation I think mines currently parked next to yours. Looks like we missed the boat.

Soft close is not worth holding an order up and they do really nothing most people don’t don’t even know the car is equipped, useless feature

Last week my dealer said all options are still available. Including soft close. He had no knowledge of shortages. Only iAS is not available.

I completely agree and if I could swap from ZPX to ZPP and individually add 4A2 (Glass Controls) and 407 (Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof) back to the order, I would absolutely do so. Unfortunately, I only think it's only possible to add 417 (Rear manual window shades) to the ZPP (Premium Package), not the others. So, If I swap down to ZPP from ZPX, I would lose 407, 4A2 and 323 (ok to lose 323, but would like the others).

Does anyone know if it is possible to individually add 4A2 and 407 to ZPP?

Incidentally, my X5 x40i was scheduled for a week 19 build before my order went from 112 to 111. The BMW Genius now tells me I'm scheduled for week 28. If that holds true, I think I'm okay waiting it out to get what I want but am nervous this could get pushed out further.

Thanks!
