Hands free (kick to open) tailgate issues

Just took ownership of a 2019 330xi. I have the premium package and all of the comfort access settings correct to be able to use the kick to open feature on the trunk. It worked once and I've yet to be able to get it to open again waiving my foot under the car. Is there a sensor that maybe needs cleaning? Not sure why it all of a sudden stopped working. Factory warrant ran out 4 days ago!

Are you positive you are “kicking” directly in the middle beneath the rear bumper? I tend to be inconsistent. I can’t always seem to get it right.

I also have a problem getting this feature to work. Not sure if it is me or the car at fault..................... Frank

Ok so I found the answer! You MUST have the key fob in your pocket or somewhere on you, stand behind the trunk and move your foot forward under the car (in line with the BMW logo) and then directly back. Apparently when you move your leg straight back that is what initiates the trunk to open. I was going side to side and that does not work!
