Everything I have read mentions the speed increase on machines that would baulk at Vista.
Is it available to download ? D.

The thing that Microsoft seemed to forget with Vista is that people will only upgrade their OS if there is a benefit to them in doing so.
So far as I could understand there is no benefit in Vista over XP, which I still use at home and at work. So what's Windows 7 going to do that XP can't? |

I am trying it out on my iMac right now (as a Virtual Machine under Parallels). The performance is definitely better that Vista's.
The download (beta) is free is now open to everyone from Microsoft's Website. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...-download.aspx Give it a shot. |

Skip the cheese and add the jam. Or is that only for hot cross buns? And why are those buns cross?

Can someone please explain the real-world risks of running Beta software?
Is it likely you'll have a few crashes/blue screens or lock ups, or are you actually looking at a potential for loosing all of your data etc? I have a brand new Sony Vaio running vista. It's a cracking machine, and is standalone of my work network (although occassionally used for work) so the OS isn't fixed - I can change it. It clips along really quick (is a great spec) so I'm happy with the performance, but I've always been a sucker for something new and shiney - Do I download the Beta and give it a whirl, or stick with what I have? Can I revert to vista with formatting and starting again if I don't like it or it casuses too many issues?

I installed it on clean partition and now have the ability to dual boot - If you did this you could tell the laptop which OS you want it to boot.
