hi guys, i'm fairly new to the whole car buying business and honestly, i'm having some trouble. in the past, my parents were the one that handled mostly everything.

i'm in the market for a e92 328xi, and it might sound silly but i'm having trouble deciding a new one and a certified pre-owned. i've been heavily weighing the pros and cons on both and please correct me if i'm wrong. leasing is not an option because i plan on keeping this vehicle for a really long time and i also drive a lot.

here are the issues i've been having deciding and again please correct me if anything.
new cars are easier to bargain than used ones.
financing rates on a new vehicle right now are a lot better than used ones.
piece of mind?
insurance?
current economy?
warranty?

my dilemma is that after all these comes in factor - if the gap in prices arent too big, i would rather get a new one. but if they are. i will continue hunting for a cpo.

you guys helped me before and thanks in advance for this. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that BMW is having 0.9% interest on CPO's right now. I think a CPO is the way to go on a 328xi, but that is just me.

their mainly 05-06. years which the e92xi didnt come out yet.

CPO, in my humble opinion.

You have to spend a lot of time on bmwusa.com looking at inventory, but there you will find some low-mileage vehicles out there coming off 24 or 36 month leases.

Last week, I got a quote from a dealer for a 2007 e92 328xi at $27,500 [their internet price on the website was $29,999]; with just 15,000 miles on it (options: auto trans, premium, and cold weather). That's 35% off of new MSRP for a vehicle that is virtually indistinguishable from new.

While 2007 e92xi's don't qualify for the 0.9% financing; if you plug in the numbers, the savings is still very significant with a CPO.

I found that if you like a lot of options then CPO is the way to go. If you are going to do a lot of mods you may consider a new base model.

Used cars are easier to bargain. There's more profit in them, so there's more room to negotiate.
Piece (peace) of mind? CPO has a longer warranty.
Insurance? I don't think it will matter, as parts and labor will still be the same for anything you need done through insurance.

I got a CPO 07 328xi E92 for $30,500...it was listed at $32,995. It came with Nav and heated seats and only had 19,000 miles on it. I think I got a decent price since they also offered a decent price for my trade in.

The CPO experience is WAY BETTER than new. Right now we have a 2006 530 that was purchase CPO in 5/08 and back in December I turned in my leased 335i coupe on a 2006 330i sedan.

With the deals BMW has right now, it just makes sense financially and you cant go wrong with the additional peace of mind. I've owned 7 BMW's in the last 10 years ( 8 bought brand new or leased ), and this is the only way I will continue to by them in the future.

I recommend you find a good sample size of CPO cars and get to test drive and check them out. Perhaps this will change your perspectives a bit on new vs used.

You got to remember to be slightly more flexible in the color choices and options you get. If you really need navigation, the slight downside is the gen 1 of idrive(pre 09) and the DVD based navi(slightly slower performance pre 09).

Well I just bought my 06 CPO 325xi and love it, I am now driving a loaner 09 328xi and besides it being tighter and smoother of a ride, since it has 3k miles on it and not 49k like mine, I really dont notice a difference, and this car is DOUBLE the price I paid for mine.

I bought CPO 330xi 6 months ago when it had 34000 miles (42000 miles now) with no major issue. I dropped it for battery checked and I got a loaner (20 miles on it). Nothing significantly different, just brand new smell. If you couldn't care less about brand new smell, CPO is the way to go. However, you should go for a test drive and you can decide.
