no front plate?

Getting close to putting in my order and was wondering if anyone in the tri-state area has their m3 with no front liscense plate. My car will be registered in NY. Has anyone without a front plate gotten stopped and hasseled by the police? How much would the ticket be and does it affect your record?

I've had no front plate for a few months already in full view of the local PD and troopers without any incident. In fact, my car nearly got broken into last week (long story, I posted it on the local E90 board) where the police came by and even commented that it looked better with no front plate.

You should be fine just as long you don't drive like a jackass. I also don't have tints and I think that helps.

It's a toss-up as to what will or won't happen. In my 996TT i got pulled over the first day of ownership for tint and no plate...I also happened to be speeding though...lol.

In the M3, i keep the front mount in the trunk and the plate behind my seat...just in case. Not a chance I'm putting that on the car. It's a ridiculous law IMHO!

I don't have a front plate, got tints and have not been pulled over.....ask your dealer not to drill the holes into your bumper tell them you will not hold them accountable for tickets for no front plate and that you'll mount at a later time after the clear bra is installed, thats what I said its all bs but who cares you know and they know it looks better w/ out it.....

I've never had a front plate on my cars. Only once has a cop said anything to me, and it was this dumb woman rookie cop trying to impress the new kid she had riding with her. It was quite funny actually. She asked me where my front plate was and I said I don't have one. She looked at me and said didn't they give you 2 plates? I said, yep, but there's no where to put the front plate on this car..... She walked over to the front of my car with this puzzled face, scratch her head in confusion and came back and said.. Have a nice day.

When I first had no front plate I used to keep it in my windshield, that immediately got a response from a cop and they told me I must have it on the front bumper. I took it out of there and never heard anything about it again, until the story I just posted above. Neither resulted in a ticket.

I've never had a plate up front (10yrs of driving 3 different cars). But, I think Conn. is much more lenient than NY or NJ.

I thought in NYC you MUST have a plate up front.

I wouldn't worry about not having a front plate on a nice car. Actually, if you get stopped for speeding rather then the point bearing moving violation you would probably get (providing you are nice and decent to the cop) an equip violation for no front plate (39:3-33 in NJ).

In 11 years and 5 BMWs I have yet to be stopped for not having a front plate.

Front license plates were invented by people who hate cars...

That said, if you live in NY Metro, it's almost a sure bet you'll get some unwanted attention going through any of the Manhattan tunnels without a front plate.

And personally, I don't want to give the 5-0 any reason to randomly pull me over...

Sorry, I don't agree. I have been driving through the Lincoln and Holland tunnels for years in BMWs and Porsches with no front plates and have never had an issue.
