Software Update

Ok, I got a notification that there is updated software on the MyBMW app. So, I downloaded it and connected my phone via Bluetooth and Wifi to the car as it says to. However, after that, nothing happens. Is there some super secret button that I need to press to start the upload from my phone to the car?

Here is the screen on the app that shows everything connected.

I don't have the answer to your question but was going to create a thread to ask if anyone installed it and had anything go awry or had anything change that they didn't like. Forgive me, I don't mean to threadjack; I thought it might be useful for everyone to have a unified thread about this most recent update instead of splintering it off. Perhaps yours could be it.

According to BMW, which doesn't tell us much. Which is why I wanted to have a thread on this.

When you get in your car a pop up will show up in the idrive screen that says install now. If it goes away I believe its a default button #7 to get to it again. I see it every time I start my car up now I just havent installed it yet because I want to make sure it doesnt update something I dont want first lol.

My button #7 has been reassigned to something else. I went through the car app menu and didn’t see anything either.

Crazy that there isn’t a way to push the update from the phone to the car.

Oh well. I guess I’ll just wait for someone else to figure it out. Lol

There's a thread in the electronics section where the guy mentions it reset all his seat, radio and M1/M2 buttons etc.

That's a big enough pain in the ass, but I'm also concerned that it will reset my headlight coding requiring me to pay to have it redone - again.

Will this update force update at some point, or can I ignore it?

What benefit does it provide?

I've got update 11/22 installed on mine and can't say I've noticed any worthwhile changes from the 7/21 version it had before.

OP, you could do a manual software update/search by going into Car, Settings, General Settings, Remote Software Upgrade, and Search for Upgrades. Just know that it may take a long time for the car to search and install the update.

Here are the details to what the 22-07 update does.

It converts the ignition to a subscription-based service, which is just fine because you can just roll it into your monthly payment.

Exact same reason I haven't done it yet either lol.

These are some of my concerns as well — I finally have the car exactly as I want it and don't want to cause issues for no reason.

Mine is updated. Lost M1, M2, seat position, 1-7 button assignments, saved nav locations except home ect. Even heads up display settings. It did recognize my iPhone. My BMW was unknowingly set to automatic updates LOL. Actually was not that big of an issue to run thru the options and reset desired options compared to the first time making settings. No apparent damages LOL

Did that. It doesn’t show any way to push the update from my phone. No other buttons on this screen to click.

I know you said that your phone was connected to the car via wifi, but you may want to double check that in iDrive settings, Mobile Devices menu. Maybe try reconnecting your wifi again. For whatever reason, your car is not seeing your MyBMW app.

The update has already downloaded onto my phone. I’ll try reconnecting the phone to the car tomorrow and see if that has been the problem.

My car installed the software on 12/14 and I haven't noticed any enhancements so far. As usual it reset autostart so I had to reenable that but no impact to my M1/M2 buttons like in the past.

Not sure if it's just me but my car exhaust seems much more muted in Sport Plus mode since the update. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this after the update?
