NY/NJ/PA track destinations

Where do all you northeast M3 owners take thier cars for the occasional track day. Limerock and monticello are way to expensive to join. Many others also require memberships. Wheres a good place to go? Thanks

Try New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ. Might be a far drive for you though. The local chapter of BMW CCA had a HPDE there last August, when the track first opened. I'm not sure of the membership requirements.

NJ and DelVal BMWCCA are going to do club race and schools at NJMP this year. They'll be on Thuderbolt on June 8 and 9, and Lightning on Aug 21-23. It's about 2 1/2 hours from NYC. NJ CCA is also doing a one day school at Lime Rock on May 15. This is probably the best way for someone to get on these tracks - you'll have a great time and meet a lot of good people. The instructors are tremendous - you'll learn something new no matter how much experience you have.

Membership at NJMP is very reasonable, once you get past the intiation fee. I spent a lot of time there last year - there are a lot of guys coming down from NY and north Jersey. One bonus is that in additon to getting the track time, you and your immediate family get full access to all paid events, as well. It's a geat deal if you're a true "track rat". If not, join the CCA and have a blast with them. If you're not a member, use my number (272557) as a referral.

I'm going to be there on the 8th but on Lightning w/ my Ducati Club....I was looking on who was going to be there the 7th so I could have done back to back days 1 w/ car 1 w/ bike unfortunately I can't do the 9th......I think I'm going to sign up for that May 1 school @ Lime Rock I'm eager to get into trackdays w/ the car...

EDIT: BTW I think the Lime Rock day is on the 15th not the 1st....correct me if I'm wrong

Scda1.com, pdadrivingschool.com, trackmasters.com

These associations all share the same principal. Pay as you go.
Most of the time they cover tracks like Lime Rock, Millville tracks, Watkins Glen, VIR.
Check the websites for their schedule, most of them will have it by now.

SCDA highly recommended. I did 15 day total trackdays in '08.

scda1.com looks pretty good. Any idea of what the average cost per a day would be? Seems like my best bet though

The price mostly depends on the track you're at.
Watkins Glen is about 250-275/day, Lime Rock 300.
You can also Score two day deals, where Watkins glen is about 480 dollars for the two days.

NJMP Drivers Club dues are $200/month. Track time is $150/day. I think initiation is currently $15,000.

Look at comscc.org. They hit all the NE tracks and are a great bunch of guys. I have experience with scda and IMO they are not very nice and too aggressive/dangerous for a DE club. There is of course the bmw clubs.. Check out Watkins Glen definitely!

What do you use as track day insurance? That is the one thing that holds me up from some of these days. I wreck the ///M I rather not foot a $60k bill for a totaled car, or worse yet my medical bills.

Just curious what broker or agency you guys use.

Thanks,

-M

We cover our track car with WSIB's (www.WSIBInsurance.com/de) on track program. Forturnately we haven't made any claims.
