Apple Music lossless?

If iPhone is PLUGGED in, will CarPlay play (those applicable songs) lossless?

Yes, this works well only if you have a truly unlimited data plan with no throttling after a certain amount of data used, however. I use a 45 watt USB C to Lightning quick charger in the car, so I don't like hard wired CarPlay as the phone charges significantly slower (15 watts I believe, but don't quote me on that). So I always stream lossless and have yet to have any issues.

Curious if this is an iD7 thing. I was under the impression at least with iD6 that wired was not an option. Am I wrong?

CarPlay in our cars is Wi-Fi not Bluetooth. And it does support Apple Lossless. My entire music collection is ALAC.

According to the apple website, only wired connections are supported.

I posted this same shot above. It's a little tricky, there is a section of the page that contradicts this, but when you go back and read the two statements on the matter, they're not actually mutually exclusive (even though it seems it at first).

So my question is does iDrive 6 support wired connections?

My apologies — I may have misunderstood your post. I didn't realize this was in the context of iDrive 6. I am not sure about that, but both wired and wireless CarPlay, when used with Lossless, is supported by iDrive 7.

Every single track on my phone is ALAC. Some of them 24/48, and everything plays over wireless CarPlay in my 2020 with B&W.

If wireless, it's converting them to lossy. I haven't tried it recently, but with my 11 pro, last year when they released lossless, I was having a weird issue playing 24/48 files over wired CarPlay - it would play fine with the phone unlocked, but it would start stuttering if locked. I've had a 13pro for more than a year but forgot to try it, I think it was a phone issue.

Also, I should clarify: I'm asking specifically about "Apple Music" Streaming available lossless tunes over CarPlay. I'm not referring to "Lossless Files" stored on the iPhone itself

You and I at least were on the same page. I knew what you meant and my response was to your now clarified question. You will have songs played Lossless as you describe, definitely while plugged in, and most likely when not.

Good deal! Incidentally, we both have the same phone too! Forget about fitting it on the wireless charger (at least with case) huh?!?

To clarify further, no lossless playback from Apple Music, or anywhere, over wireless CarPlay. The phone will convert to regular aac(mp3)@256kbps and this is what is pushed to the car's DAC. Audio is still through bluetooth. With the usb cable plugged in and through CarPlay, the phone is pushing the full available bandwidth of the file and there is a great, discernible benefit with well recorded sources and the B&W.

Actually I was too, UNTIL I figured out I could attach a wallet directly to my phone as I hated carrying both. Haven’t looked back since

I actually also tried the MagSafe wallet for a few days, but I had a couple of inadvertent detachments and went back to a very, very slim card case.

OK, to hijack my own thread: Will high resolution files (like 192/24) play from a USB thumb drive? From my IPhone plugged in USB?

I would expect the MOST system is limited to 16/44.1

CarPlay is not over BLE. CarPlay in the F90 is over WiFi, including all audio signals. You can stream lossless audio over WiFi with no issue just the same as if you're plugged in via cable. In fact, WiFi transfer rates are far superior to USB transfer rates, so you're actually bottlenecking your data stream by plugging in and using the USB connection instead of the WiFi connection.
