Dealer ran into lift during service wheel damage
Dealer called me stating the tech ran into the lift arm pulling my vehicle in for 1200 mile break in service.
They say the rim is "scuffed" and want to send it out to a wheel repair shop. Should I push for a new wheel? I haven't picked it up yet to see how bad it is. Looks like a new wheel is around 1k to 1100 as I'm assuming it is the front wheel. I also had them ceramic coated so would either need that redone or have the repair shop do it. Thoughts? |

I'd push for a new wheel. With only 1200 miles on the vehicle, it's still "new". The fact that you're asking means you're already feeling unsure about having a repaired wheel on your car so I'd push for new personally.

That's annoying ... But, it depends what you mean by "scuffed" ... if it's light, I would probably accept a repair, though I would want perfection as the outcome if a repair. Anything more than a fairly light scuff I would just insist on a new wheel, the dealer can have the old one repaired and sell it on ... all businesses make mistakes and have to suck up the cost of them

Not the response most will like but that can be repaired easily with a good shop. While I too would want a new wheel, I had one with worse marks repaired by a subcontract shop to a BMW dealer in MD and it was excellent.

Same thing happened to me and they repaired it and it's all good.

I suspect if you curb checked one of theirs while test driving, you wouldn't be getting the super duper discount price or repairing the wheel. You'd be handed a bill to buy a new one at full retail price. Not your fault the tech was new or careless.

If On mine, I would let them repair a scuff. No harm, no foul.
Yours , as noted above, is missing a chunk. Probably can be repaired, but not on my ride. That could cause a stress riser and later crack….leaving you stranded with a flat. |

I would demand a new wheel...if it was a scuff or scratch a fix would just be fine.

I've never needed curb rash repair but have swapped tires/rubbers/wheel mods all the time. The contact point where they break the bread or seat it - sometimes is alot of pressure in that area being depicted. IMO it would be a easy week point to micro fracture down the road if said/similar pressure would be in the repair spot. Whether it be the filler or just the paint/clear in that localized area
