Tire Size Question for New Tires/Wheels
Happy Holidays to all!
I was thinking about switching over to 17" Rims with All-Season Tires, following links: Rial Salerno Wheels and ... Michelin Primacy MXV4 All-Season Tires ... however, I noticed that on my 330xi (with Sports Package w/ 162 Wheels), I have 2 different tire sizes for the front and rear. Front: 225/40R/18 Rear: 255/35R/18 My question is, is it possible to get the above Rims and 225/45R/17 tires for the front and REAR??? Will it cause any damage to the car itself? If somebody has any advice, it'll be very much appreciated.

Are you talking about winter rims? You can run a square set-up on your car no problem (same size tires front and rear).
If you're not going for winter set-up, I'm not sure why you would want to downsize to 17".

But yeah, I would like to downsize to 17" rims (salerno) and use Michelins with them. The stock Bridgestones Runflat tires they put on my 330xi are GARBAGE, too much noise and they don't grip the snow as well as Michelins do. I was sliding last week with my 330xi in the snow and that's not a good thing. Figured it's time to downsize and get all-season tires. I might leave them on throughout the year (hence all-season tires) since I'm not sure what to do with the Styling 162s ... yet (might end up selling them eventually).

Figured I'd replace all four with the Rial Salerno 17" rims and feel safter when I hit the infamous NJ pot holes here. With the Salernos, I have more choices in terms of getting Michelin tires that fit those rims. I love the 162 stylings, but I think I have to go with 17" rims with all-season Michelin tires to make me feel safer with these roads. But yeah, wanted to make sure I can do the same size on all four as opposed to the original setup of 225/40R in the front and 255/35 in the back.

it's ok to run a 225/45/17 all around
That tire size is compatible with your car and will work fine even if you have a staggered wheel setup from the factory Non sports come with that size anyways and it's the same car minus the sports package, which doesn't effect being able to use that tire size. |

Confirmed, that would work with no problem.

yes they will work just fine. You can also do a staggered winter set. Here is a M6 set up I did with stock offsets 18x8 front and 18x8.5 just like OEM.

Got the Tires and Rims in ... went straight to a local tire service center and POOOF! Installed and ready to go! Thanks to all that replied with suggestions and answers to my Noob questions ...
Ride is much better without runflats, less noise, less harshness/more comfortable ... Here are the pics I promised (didn't get a chance to wash the car yet especially after the snow we just got last week).
