I have a 2021 X5M and a 2022 X5 xDrive40i.
The 2022 40i has the air suspension and even with the Msport option and 22" wheels, it is very comfortable on long drives. I would not use the x5M on long drives. But it handles like it is on rails like a car. That's the trade off. It is jarring on the freeway even with our nice roads here in South Orange County California. If you want the v8 power, you will be happy with the X5 50i. It has air suspension and is very comfortable.

We use our M to drive 100 miles each way between the city and upstate NY every weekend and have taken back home to western Ohio a few times. Both my partner and I find it comfortable. The seats are firm but lots of adjustment so once we got everything adjusted where we wanted it we found them very comfortable. Only flag is perhaps your body size/shape. I have heard some larger guys on here complain they feel cramped in the seats. We're both 5'10 and ~160 and don't feel cramped at all (actually I have the side bolsters adjusted in quite a bit).
Ride is also stiff but I would not describe it as harsh unless you drive on a lot of concrete highways (ours seems to bounce a bit with the expansion joints). We had a loaded 40i before this. Yes the rides and seats were more plush but we've never regretted once getting the M. The ride of the M reminds me of our old 3 series, which I loved: firm and sporty, not luxurious/floaty. We actually considered getting a Porsche when our lease on the 40i was coming up but found the ride too busy/jittery. We both preferred the ride of the M to the Cayenne S we were looking at. |

I guess the real answer is no one gets an M for comfort lol. There's always something you're giving up like MPG, comfort, maintenance costs, etc. HOWEVER, as a car guy, the pros vastly outweigh the cons IMO.

I just traded an X7 M50i for a X5MC. Drove 9 hours (600 miles) each way to pick it up ... in the same day. The X5MC certainly has more feel to the road and responsiveness, I would not call it harsh if driven in the default Road/Comfort setting. The X5MC does not have air suspension like the X7 and some competitive vehicles like Mercedes and Audi so it's not going to "float". I just drove mine back to back tonight with my wife's Q8 and if you hit a pothole, you're going to feel it in either vehicle. I think the complaining about the X5MC suspension is a bit exaggerated.

What seats do you have in cayenne S, 8, 14 or 18 way?
