New camera needed
I've sold my Olympus 550UZ and now need another camera.
It needs to take SD cards. Im thinking about the Lumix FZ28 Any other suggestions?

I bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 in August. The wide angle lens and decent optical zoom is what swung the decision for me and I've had great results from what is essentially a compact digital. The intelligent auto feature and face recognition is useful for quick shots, but you can go into manual mode as well.
It's also won much praise... 12/2008 DMC-TZ5, What Digital Camera, Best Superzoom Compact, Christmas Guide, Dec 08 "Ideal for travel photography" 11/2008 DMC-TZ5, Stuff Magazine, 5 stars, November "A 3in LCD and 30FPS hi-def video recording complete a tidy package." 11/2008 DMC-TZ5, Computer Shopper, Best Buy award, November 2008 "Superb high-definition video." 10/2008 What Digital Camera, Recommended, October 2008 "A great model with high-resolution LCD screen and accurate exposures" 08/2008 EISA Award for DMC-TZ5, European Compact Camera 2008-2009 "An ideal travel camera, one you will want to carry with you every day!" 08/2008 DMC-TZ5, Trusted Reviews, Recommended, Online "It handles superbly, performs exceptionally well and is a genuine pleasure to use." 08/2008 Which Digital Camera, Best Buy, DMC-TZ5, August 2008 "Images are very sharp and well detailed, with vibrant and natural-looking colours" 08/2008 Digital Camera Buyer, Editors Choice, DMC-TZ5, Issue 73 "There's so much to admire and appreciate about the highly recommended TZ5 that it's difficult to find many negatives" 07/2008 What Digital Camera, Recommended, July 2008 "The world's favourite superzoom series strikes again!" 06/2008 Photography Blog, Essential, DMC-TZ5, Online "The DMC-TZ5 is a well-built camera with a high quality metal body" 04/2008 CameraLabs.com (online), Highly Recommended "The flexibility and convenience of having such a long reach in a relatively pocketable body cannot be underestimated" Read Article

I'm after a replacement for the 550uz so it will need a big lens etc I don't want to get into dslr's really as the lense costs are too much for what I need.

I recentely got £900 worth of kit (not camera body as I already have one but lenses etc) for £300 not been used was well chuffed Personally I think you could more than do a DSLR justice! Other than that - http://www.jessops.com/online.store/...5386/Show.html this one looks good value (saving £127) but it does use AA batteries, rechargeable batteries are loads better as you don't have to keep buying batteries lol!

Whats your budget Paul, and what exactly are you looking for features wise.
I am doing a job for the main man of this company tomorrow and could ask his advice on which camera? http://www.harniman.com/

I just purchased a Sony A350 DLSR - lovely camera with plenty of features and it feels good in the hand also. Shoots in RAW and has live-view but does not support SD cards, instead favouring CF media. This is reasonably priced though and very durable.
Lenses are obviously plentiful as they are changeable. Not had chance to use it lots, but so far has done nothing but impressed. Hoping to play a bit over xmas (after I treat myself to a new Imac 24" ) and get used to it a bit more. |

Cheers - I've just come from an UZ550 though so need an equivalent in lense zoom. i.e 18 or 20x or around 400mm in old 35mm speak! Only ones near it are Kodak Z8612 IS Panasonic TZ5 Canon SX110 IS I stil prefer the look of the FZ28 though

Paul, I asked Nigel and he said to go with a Lumix DMC-FZ28. He reckoned it was as good as the Leica equivalent, plus you save quite a few quid.
