I need Mac Pro help
Im not making fun of the other threads. The past couple of days when i shut down my macpro, the dock and top navigation bar disappear and it just shows my background. I have to hold the power button to shut it down. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't wanna call apple support because they're idiots.

Your serious?!?!
Like bsamoul, that usually happens when a program isnt shutting down. Shut down all your programs manually and check the activity monitor and make sure everything shut down.

I'd help you, but you know....MACs are supposed to be intuitive, so I can't use them =/
I have to deal with PCs...you know...the hard stuff -_- if it were a PC, generally you have a task manager where you can see what is running and what might be causing the problem, MACs? no clue. |

It could also be the OS hanging up, maybe you updated software recently and something went wrong

Wusup Taron. It could be from Final Cut Pro, when I installed in mine it would take a good 10 minutes to bootup and shutdown. Which Final Cut do you have, and are you importing footage from a HD cam?

do you think it might be because i've been running the shit out of it for the past week? It was rendering a 3D animation for like 3 nights, and ive been editing a video during the day lol. Is there like a defragment program for leopard? I know there was one on xp and sped it up pretty well

I have FCP 6 and i import the footage from a Sony HDV deck. I have the deck connected to a broadcast monitor and those 2 are on most of the time too. Ive been running this setup for a while now i dont know why this just started happening

It could be that you were editing it for 3 days but I highly doubt it, once I transferred my footage to an external hard drive it started booting up normally.

Try zapping your PRAM by restarting your computer and hold down command+option+P+R you should here a sound, hold it down till you hear the sound 3x then let go. See if that fixes your problem.

Download Onyx and run the tests...it'll tell you whats up. Also, shut down your computer and reset the PRAM and such (Onyx will help you). As long as Onyx says your good, you'll be fine. Otherwise, it'll tell you what the problem is. Good luck.

Just leave it, its part of the OS shut down procedure. Although if it sits like that for over 30 mins, check software update and such.
