Next up

Some of you might recall I test drove an Integrale for sale near me a while back - that was up for £40K. One of my all time fave cars.
Loved it but Captain Sensible kept my savings safe.
Next up on my list of all time fave cars - a BMW Z1 has come up for sale mildly near me. Also £40K. Shall I torture myself and get involved, or stay happy with the memory of watching the doors go up and down at the Birmingham Motor Show?!

Ill be honest mate, I can think of quite a few other cars that I would rather spend 40 bags on!

I definitely would not spend £40k on a Z1... yes, it's proper quirky, and a bit rare, but I still think you'd wonder what you spent your money on after spending 40k on one... plus I don't think it has aged all that well...

I would, if I had to find a BMW, look for a late 70's 633 or similar... But this might be out of £40k reach...? Or even an E26/E30 3 series in good, low milage nick...

As for the Integrale, I suspect these are best admired from afar and the reality is quite a different thing when it comes to maintenance and upkeep...

Do you think an Elise at say half that cost is likely to keep its value?

Yep the Elise is a really good shout, if you want to spend the full £40k I would personally go for an original (unmessed about with) Mark 1 Exige........... usable on high days and holidays and I reckon will increase in value quite substantially.

ps Judging by the MOT expiry date I reckon this could be an old Ad and you may be looking at more in the current market.

Thanks.
No, not looking to spend £40k - just spotted two of my dream cars come up for sale and local to me. The Integrale was <200m away from my house! So a daily dog walk drool!
Sequence of silly cars for me was a Caterham 7, then swapped for a 1936 Ford CX Tourer Deluxe (to get the kids in the back), now nothing….
