I have used the apple earbuds as long as I can, and now its time to get a new pair. I was looking into the Bose triport in-ear headphones, they are on sale at bestbuy for $89

I think I would prefer earbuds over over-the ear or on ear headphones, just because they are smaller and easier to carry around and put away when I am not using them. That and also, I have a Panasonic noise canceling over-the ear headphones that work just fine. My question is, are there any other in-ear headphones that you guys would recommend? I also heard the ones from SHURE are great, and they are in par with BOSE in terms of price. Thanks!

btw, not really looking to spend over $100, like some of the $400 Shure ear buds I saw at the apple store

I have some sony's that are about $50. They sound way better and are more comfortable than the stock apples. They were cheap enough that I don't have to worry about losing them.

In my opinion, Shure makes one of the best noise-canceling earbuds. You can debate whether noise canceling offers true sound...but I can barely discern the difference. If you already have an over-the-ear set (which I prefer when sitting in an airplane), then you can get one of Sure's older noise-canceling models for less than $75 (E2c). I have a E3c set and they worked like a charm at work. They have models price up to 500-600 bucks, but you would be paying for "new features" you wouldn't necessarily noticed during normal use (i.e., if you are an audiophile you won't use earbuds are home).

thanks for the info, at home I use Bose companion II's with my MBP, I chose these because they are somewhat portable and doesnt take up too much space, overall I am very satisfied with them. I would be mostly using the earbuds when im at the cafe or out on the subway etc... also in the studio while I am drawing.. music is a MUST, I cant focus otherwise, so comfort is important because I am usually listening to my ipod for a good 3-4 hours during my studio classes.

Bose Triports don't fit everyone's ear, and they will fall out easily if the shape of your ear isn't perfect. V-modas are really good, a bit bass-heavy, and the Shure's are always good.

For a day to day use and if comfort and value are among your selection criteria check into Sony MDR-ED21LP Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones. I can not wear most in-the-ear headphones since they hurt my ears after 5 minutes of use and they get really itchy. Sony's design for these headphones is one of the most comfortable for long listening periods, IMO.

Only $15 at Amazon - One of the highest rated headphones for iPod there. It sound way better than many headphones costing many times more:

For prtable audiophile sound you want In Ear Monitors (IEMs) but you seem to have ruled them out. I'd generally go with Shure before either Apple or Bose because neither Apple or Bose deliver competitive sound quality and both are way over priced, IMHO.

Look around at www.head-fi.org for some other alternatives.

I have been using those for a while now. They are really good in term of noise cancelling and sound quality. Top notch stuff from Bose. Also, the thing that makes this special is that they rest on your ears unlike the regular earbuds, pretty comfortable.

I got mine from an ebay auction for under $70.

I use the Bang & Olufsen headset for my iPhone. I got them for 99 bucks after the 100 bucks gift card they sent me in the mail for Thanks Giving.

I used to have a pair of Sony, but only use them when I study in the school's library. They were ok for my purpose but if you ever listen to lots of bass, those are just weak. I also had a big headphone from Shure and the first gen noise canceling ear buds and headphone from Sony, which were really good when MD was still the shit in the mid-90s. I would recommned the Shure buds.

Sony's Guppies. Cute huh? Actually they sound as good as any others that I have heard (I haven't really been comparing sound though) but they last much much longer. My earbuds always get torn up and break. They definately last the longest of the ones I've tried. $10 too.

Same here...at work I have a cube...hearing other people around me gets me out of focus so I'm always listening to music while at work. At home I have a Sennheiser HD-600 set, but at work I use the Shure ear buds. The Shure kit comes with different bud sizes (some with foam) so you will certainly find one that fits your ear perfectly and won't bother your for 3-4 hours of listening.

If you really like your bass I would say skip in ear's. You wont get great bass like you would from over-the-ear headphones unless you pay more. (just in case you happen to be a huge basshead)

Now, if you like a balanced, great sound, these are great options:

I have a different view. The bose tri ports have absolutely NO noise canceling capabilities. The sound is nice - not overly bassy as some may say. However, if you want noise cancelling, this is NOT the head phone to get.

Go for a true in ear headphone like the v-moda or shure for the best quality sound.

Bose Tri-port IE's are garbage. Anyone that says otherwise is just buying into the Bose hype machine. If you want nice in ear earphones, try Ultimate Ears or Shure.
