E90 Valet/Hotel Switch Retrofit

Hi guys,

Was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a little retrofit to add the valet/hotel switch in the glovebox that for some reason didn't come as standard in my 335d.

I started by retrofitting the trunk release switch found above the ODBII port (unrelated to the topic of this thread, but it's what I've been using to test the Valet switch);

Then whilst running another wiring loom in for an M3 steering rack retrofit with Servotronic, I added an additional wire to go from x14271 pin 40, to x13376 pin 40;

As per the following diagrams in the Bentley manual;

I've found there to be some confusion as to which connector is actually x14271, but as per the diagram, I have contiuity tested, and pin 53 on the connector I have used pin 40 as the connection to the CAS is indeed pin 1 on the hotel switch.

But it doesn't seem to be working.
Coding wise, I've looked through the JBBE and CAS modules, but there is no reference to Hotel/Trunk, the only reference I can seem to find is within the DWAI module whereas there is an option for "Hotel Mode".

When I wired the trunk release switch in, it worked straight off the bat without any coding.

Anyone any ideas why this isn't doing as it should be?
Very limited information about this that I can find on other forums, so any help would be massively appreciated!

Garage List
X14272 is the connector for the switch.

P46 for GND, P53 for SIG

X14271 is the connector P40 > P40 in CAS

So… why did you have to retrofit a trunk release switch?

Thanks very much for noticing that mate - I stupidly misread the drawing!!

Ref trunk release switch, I'm not sure if it's a UK thing or what, but I didn't have one, and it's a nice to have - I only mentioned it here because it gave a little context as to the bits I was doing on the car already.

I'll move this pin over tomorrow and see if I have any more luck! Thanks!

Wiring switched and toggle switch working perfectly - thanks again!

For anyone wanting to do this retrofit.

You will need;
1 x Trunk release switch; 61318379766
2 x 0.2-0.35mm contacts; 61131383776
1 x 2/3m of 0.35mm thin walled wire

As per the diagram below;

Run the wire from pin 40 on X14271 on the front of the JBBE (there is some confusion as to which connector this is, so continuity test from pin 1 on the valet switch connector to pin 53 on one of the connectors on the JBBE - this will tell you which is connector X14272 - plug this new wire into the opposite connector) to pin 40 on the main connector of the CAS (x13376).

Wire can be run directly from the connector, around the back of the fusebox, behind the centre console under the dash, over the steering column (following the existing harnesses) and down to the CAS. It's not a terribly hard job, but definitely worth throwing in if you had some other looms going in the same way (as I did with the Servotronic loom for an M3 steering rack retrofit).

Done.

This toggle switch will work without coding.
