I almost run out of fuel yesterday. I always have 2 gallons of fuel and filled it up until I found a gas station. After the fill up from can, the check engine light came up.

What’s the problem? How to solve it?

It's even more of a guess for us. Get the car scanned with a BMW capable scanner that outputs BMW manufacturer codes.
