Coolant Smell??
I am looking at an unmodified 2009 e93. Extremely clean car, I will be the third owner. 140,000 miles on the clock.
My only concern is that the current owner says that during summer, or on very hot days- and ONLY on these hot days- he can smell a little coolant. He occasionally has to add coolant to the reservoir as well, but it has been checked for leaks at a reputable shop, and no leaks were found. Also no signs of a leaking head gasket. Would anyone be able to enlighten me on this issue? Thanks in advance!! |

These cars are actually a lot better at keeping coolant on the inside than previous generations.
But... BMW's leak stuff. That sounds pretty trivial. Just wait until you see how much oil is leaking out

Turns out there is a small hole in a coolant hose, I guess. I have to drive it 3 hours home. Duct tape? lol |

Probably trivial to replace, but I'd do it or get it done before driving it that far. If the owner won't/can't fix it, then subtract that cost from the transaction price and decide if you want to trust it for the drive or not. Other than that, hope it's a good car for you!
