Question Coolant Smell??

I am looking at an unmodified 2009 e93. Extremely clean car, I will be the third owner. 140,000 miles on the clock.

My only concern is that the current owner says that during summer, or on very hot days- and ONLY on these hot days- he can smell a little coolant. He occasionally has to add coolant to the reservoir as well, but it has been checked for leaks at a reputable shop, and no leaks were found. Also no signs of a leaking head gasket.

Would anyone be able to enlighten me on this issue? Thanks in advance!!

These cars are actually a lot better at keeping coolant on the inside than previous generations.

But... BMW's leak stuff. That sounds pretty trivial. Just wait until you see how much oil is leaking out

I just got off the phone with the current owner....

Turns out there is a small hole in a coolant hose, I guess. I have to drive it 3 hours home. Duct tape? lol

Probably trivial to replace, but I'd do it or get it done before driving it that far. If the owner won't/can't fix it, then subtract that cost from the transaction price and decide if you want to trust it for the drive or not. Other than that, hope it's a good car for you!
