Sunday, Jan 18 Thill $145 with TMR

Quote:
2009 Schedule is here!! - Our first event of the season is priced very low, so come out and shake the dust off your car on Sunday, January 18th. TMR will not 'pack the track' with cars, and our event format (number of run groups) will either stay the same or be reduced for some of our events this season. There are a few tentative dates on the following list, but here's the schedule and registration availability as of today. To attend the first event of the 2009 season, go to the following link and submit a registration and payment:

http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/h..._payments.html

January 18th - Thunderhill (Sunday) Open for registration now and limited to 25 cars per run group. Full service event! (great stocking stuffer!) $145
Anyone have experience with this group?

Thunderhill with only 25 cars on track is pretty good since its 3.1 miles long.

That's true, I guess if I can handle a NASA Thill day with much more than 25 cars I should pretty much feel like I have the track to myself?

How'd you guess......

I'm coming off a long Dec 24-Jan18 vacation so I'm rolling straight into the office on the following Monday

In 09 I might try to cherry pick Infineon days for the rest of the year. I hate the drive back from Willows to SF and doing the overnight at laguna is really driving up the event cost

Thunderhill does have rainy days in January..I have been running the Audi Club events since Jan 1998...probably 20% of those days were rainy at least one day.

They will require windows down.

I've done it both ways in the rain - windows up and down.

I will warn you that the E92 shape is such that, with an open window, there is a constant drip on your leg from the open window. Absolutely sucks.

I did another event with windows closed. Much nicer for the interior, but I still couldn't escape the thought of flying off track, having my car catch on fire and having the event staff be unable to yank me out because my windows were up!

Yes, but the guy who is a club member working at corner X doesn't always have a hammer.

The professional medical staff do, but sometimes the first guy to get to you is Joe Corvette with his radio and not much else.

Just got back from this TMR day and I left after 3 out of 5 sessions. I was in the 'mixed' group which was a combo of open passing and open passing w/ point bys (depending on whether a person had a 'dot' on the back of their car).

Bottom line: I don't think this organization is for me. The drivers felt extremely aggressive and made choices that were more appropriate for club racing than a 'driving event'.

For example, when I rode as a passenger in the advanced group, I saw a couple of 'dive bomb' passes in the braking zone going into T1 and then multiple cars 'shut the door' on someone and kept the car off line in T2 and cars were stacked extremely close together in the middle of the turn. yikes

in the mixed group (which I ran in) there was supposed to be point bys for people with 'dots' on the back of their car, but some drivers ignored the dot and passed anywhere they wanted, including in corner entry of T6. other 'interesting' driver choices included extremely close tail gating during the first lap of the day (40F ambient temps, full track yellow), passing on checkered flag even though club rules are no passing last lap, cars racing up and over T5 cyclone under waving yellow. no drivers meetings for advanced or mixed group

I think some people would really like this group, because there is a lot of track time for cheap, timing equipment is encouraged and most cars are 'race prepped' with r comps, cages etc, so for users looking for a competitive environment, this could be a great club

Hey Nick,

I've run with them 3 times at Infineon. Been good experiences.

Ironically at the last event in late Nov. TMR was spouting about how safe they are; only 1 accident in 80 events. There were 3 major accidents on that day causing me to miss the last session.

I was in mixed group running consistent 2:02 speeds and hit a 2:00 on one of the open laps I was able to find. This means I was passing a lot but I did get passed by a few also. All situations were well mannered and predictable. A lot of mutual respect going on.

One thing I've found is that the lower the price of the event the more aggressive the drivers -- see NASA. Nonetheless, TMR is supposed to monitor how people are driving and take appropriate action. TMR may be running into problems if they don't clean up their act, especially with the prices they normally charge and without instruction.

Try Hooked on Driving and NCRC. I've had great experiences with both. BTW, I think NCRC has a really cheap Laguna day coming up in April.

Glad you made it home safely.

I was parked next to a long time TMR user who also skipped the last 2 sessions because of the aggressiveness. Maybe it is just 'first event of the season' mentality.

I'll probably give TMR another go, and this time sign up for a group that is point bys mandatory. perhaps having the same expectations for everyone will make it better. I have a feeling a lot of people who wanted to be in 'advanced' got bumped to mixed because of run group sizes and that may have caused the issue
