New Member saying Hello
Hi all bimmer posters. I'm a fresh bmw newbie here. I used to drive Lexus IS300 and now I'm moving from jdm to oem. I've been reading quite a lot of posts here, you guys are awesome posters, really good and intuitive info, LOVE the DIY and gallery sections! I'm hoping we can share useful information here.
I used to live in Vancouver, but I just moved to Hong Kong. Getting an automatic 2nd hand E92 335i (really wish to drive stick, but I have to consider my family member and future 2nd market). I've thought of getting a brand new 335, but then there is 85% tax for luxurious cars in Hong Kong (no joke...it's 85%...pain in the A$$). Brand new should be around $88k USD, and now the 2nd hand one is just $60k USD. It's a 2007 automatic E92 335i Jet Black/Coral Red/Aluminum trim, the mileage is around 16,000km. The 2nd hand car dealer will take the car to BMW to do a service check and service record. You guys have any idea how well they check the car? My only concern is that HK BMW cannot tell if this 2nd hand car has been involved in any accident. When I checked this car out, I saw the hood paint is not too shiny, as if there is not much of clear coat on it or kind of like a matt non-glossy colour. I asked the car dealer and he said the previous owner got chipped on the hood and he repainted. Therefore, I'm worried about if this car was involved in a big accident or not. The warranty will end in May 2009 (yes...Hong Kong BMW only offers 2 years warranty). Should I pay $1240 (in USD) to extend another 12 months? What do you guys think? |

Hmmm that hood issue sounds iffy....
And with the 335, any extra bit of warranty is welcome in my book. Too many catastrophic failure possibilities. Congrats btw! |
