Car Ramps?
Anyone use ramps such as the Rhino Ramps? Do you find the height of 6.5 inches raises the car enough (e92/93 w/zsp). I wanna do an oil change and am trying to decide how tall I wanna make my ramps.

I'm a pretty thick guy, and the Rhino Ramps were tall enough for me to install an AE exhaust. However, I could not use the creeper under the front of the car, I had to lay directly on the ground.

The ramps are terrific. I have the sports package and they work great !!
I do recommend you get the higher weighted one since the smaller weighted one doesn't look as strong. |

I use them to change my oil, they work perfect. I will say however, that in my future I'm hoping to get a real hydraulic lift so I can tinker more. A lift would make it 10X easier to change wheels.

Thanks, I decided on making mine 7.5 inches high with 5 stacks of 2x10's from Home Depot. Total cost $25 and it works great. This way I dont have the problem of pushing the ramp like many other people do.

Yes! Simply buy 5 qty. of 2"x10"x8ft wood boards. The quality is irrelevant. I paid about 25 bucks total. YOU MAY NEED A WIDER 12" BOARD depending on how wide your tires are.
I wanted my ramps to be 6.5 ft long and I wanted the top level to be 18". That is why I got 8 foot boards. The 18" i cut off the end will leave me with a 6.5 ft piece for the base. In fact each board you cut, each piece will become a part of each ramp. I made each cut at a 45 degree to create a smooth transition. The picture below shows this. After cutting each layer gets glued and screwed together. How much glue and how much screwing is up to you. I used 2.5" screws about every foot or so on the sides. The ramp is only 1.5 tall on the bottom and 3" by the second step so it should handle all but the lowest cars. If you have an abnormally low vehicle with a large front overhang you can extend the bottom piece. I used a 1x1" piece as a wheel stop on the top level. Here it is next to the car. Here they are stacked. They are heavy but are not meant to be portable. |

I've used them and they work great. If you've lowered your car, just make sure you have enough clearance.
