Question Fast Ticking Noise in Cold

It's averaging about 30 degrees here and for the last few days ive been hearing a very fast ticking noise from the engine, not the same as when you drive a car hard and it ticks until it gradually cools down, this is very fast idk what it is, i also just changed my reflectors so i'd like to avoid going to the dealership if i dont need to

Reflectors are totally irrelevant. However, I have had the same problem yesterday, and I know what your talking about. AFAIK, this only happens in freezing temps, and once the engine heats up the ticking stops, at least in my case it has.

Could be valve tap...all metal components in the engine expand and contract in different temp's. The dealer wont car about your reflectors...

It's more likely the bucket hydraulic lifter tap. Common on BMWs with hydraulic lifters, although, it's more common on the 328 than the 335, it still happens, especially in the cold weather.

I head it for the first time in my 328i tonight (it is about 45 deg. out) I didn't notice it at any stoplights with the windows closed, but when I went to McDonald's (about 1 mile from my house) and put the window down to order I could hear it echoing off the side of the building. By the time I had gotten home it had stopped. Keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't become a common issue.

Happens to almost everyone with an E9x it seems. When the E90 first came out, they were supposedly replacing the head/valves/whatever to fix it, then a bulletin came out saying it was "normal" so they stopped.

I read somewhere that if you let your engine warm then rev it hard, it goes away for a few weeks. =P

So i've waited a few months and the noise is still there if not worse, after searching on the forum i think it's the lifters or the cylinder head, how should i approach my SA about this and what exactly should i ask for? i know everyone who's had the "bleeding" procedure done for their ticking noise on this forum hasn't seen any improvement but if this is the first thing dealerships are doing i'm sure mine will waste my time as well
