Rear Fog Light Switch!

I emailed Savage BMW Parts Dept about buying this part, gave them the part number etc. They emailed me a quote for $125 + tax!

Are they over pricing it? I thought it was more in the $50-$60 range?

Way off topic, but can you guys get visors that don't have the foolish airbag warnings on them? I didn't see any on the site :/

Nope, that's the only way that they come from BMW. Get out your GooGone and start scrubbing!

What is the part number and pricing for the switch for the E90 LCI? The trim is different. Also, there's debate here as to whether simply changing the switch will be enough to get the rear foglights to function.

What? I was under the impression that I buy the switch...take out the US switch, plug in the new one and I'd be good to go!

Am I wrong?

We don't know if the LCI (facelifted sedan) still works the same way. But since yours is an 07 it will work just fine. I have it on mine and install only took about 15 minutes.

My US spec 2009 E90 LCI in Europe came with red turn signals and no rear fog light but here in Europe the turn signals have to be amber and the car must have a rear fog light. My circumstances with the car do not require me to conform to this regulation but I requested the dealership give me a cost for the conversion of the rear lights. They quoted £484 for parts and 2 hours labour. They said that the rear fog light might require wiring. As you know, to change the light switch takes about 15 minutes and it shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes to change the light clusters. I chose not to have the work done there.

I later went to another dealership parts department and bought the light clusters but not the switch. These were installed in less than fifteen minutes. I also discussed the light switch with the parts department and was told they weren't sure whether just changing the switch would work. The issue is that the Adaptive Braking system has changed with the LCI where the emergency flashers now come on as the car's speed drops below about 5 mph (end of the emergency braking). The light switch interfaces with the components of the Adaptive Braking system and on a US spec that doesn't require the rear fog light these components/software may be incompatible.

About the only way to settle the debate is for someone to be the guinea pig and buy and install the switch to see if it works.

I got the answer about the fog light and light switch for the LCI today. The part number is 61319169404 and is, in fact, plug n' play as was in prior years. Man they're bright!

Haha I thought 20% was a good deal. My wife's uncle opened up an auto shop so he opened an account with the BMW dealership I bought my car at. His first part was 50% off list. He told me next time I want parts, go through him. There's a different price for every walk of life. I had to laugh out loud when my coworker got the BlackBerry Storm the day it came out for $129 from his rep.

It enables the rear fog lights, which are bright red taillights. Sort of like driving around with the brake lights on all of the time. These are required in Europe, sometimes found in cars in the United States and must only be used when visibility is extremely poor. The idea is to make the car more visible and perhaps avoid an Escalade suppository.

BMW inhibits them in the American market because we can not be trusted to use them properly.

the same lights are also used for adaptive brake lights. they come on during HARD braking only. this function is still used even when the rear fog light switched is installed, / per BMW. I think I've used this function twice last year, but it's nice to have, being the switch is only $63.72, and is plug and play. Easiest mod other than the golf tee. lol
