I decided to go ahead with a 2022 build since it doesn't look like PHEV is in the future for LCI, and wanted to convert my current lease into equity before I go over on mileage.

Emailed a CA I used for my last couple of cars yesterday afternoon and he happened to have an allocation that was set to start production next week. Timing works out well for a trip I have planned in a couple months where it will be nice to have the bench seat instead of the captain chairs... other than that... It looks like I'm going extra original with this one:

Does your current X7 have HK audio or the basic HiFi? How much did the dealer gives for your current lease?

My car is scheduled to build on Week 15 which don't know why it's so late considering we signed on 2/28. Want to hear the opinion on the audio and decide if I want to order something before the car arrives.

My current X7 has HK, I had the HiFi system in a 4 series a few years ago and wasn't unhappy with it. I'm sure it's different and would hit different in the X7 anyway, but I'm not much of an audiophile anymore. I mainly listen to talk radio/podcasts, if anything at all.

They're giving me $65k for my current car. It's probably worth a bit more, but it had 2 minor accidents so I wasn't pushing it.

When did you get a production number for your car? I don't think they would have had an allocation for a week 15 build until a few days after you signed at the earliest. This one was already in the works on their end for dealer inventory, and was due to get a VIN next week, so I just lucked out with timing.

I went back and checked my conversation with the CA. we signed agreement on 3/2 and the production number was given at 3/17. And the CA told me over the phone it's 15 week build. The tracking online moved to production yesterday and the VIN was assigned.

I'm not an audiophile but want to get everything to a decent level coz I'm going to keep the car for a while. (Current car I had 8 years)

I got X7 40i 3 weeks ago. My car has HiFi system and it's not great. It sounds muffled and like some one put a pillow on the speakers. It's not very bad but definitely not something you would enjoy on a vehicle like this. This is the only thing that drives me crazy every time I get in the car and drive.
If you are only listening to some podcasts you will probably be okay but if you want to njoy some music it's not good.
Except the audio system you enjoy every bit this vehicle has to offer

No two ways about it. For anyone who enjoys audio and appreciates good sounding systems the HiFi is an enormous disappointment. For a car of this caliber it’s frankly a joke that that is what is offered but what can you do given supply chain issues. Wife’s M50i was ordered and delivered with B&W Diamond system and after some initial dialing in of settings as well as break in period the system sounds amazingly rich, clear and defined. The key is high quality source material in conjunction with appropriate EQ settings.

100% agree.. and I don't think it's supply chain issue, they just picked few models over X7.. BMW is offering this on other cars as an option but not on X7 which is supposed to be one of their flagship SUV.. I went to the dealer other day for license plates and got a chance to sit in a iX and there I saw it "Harman Kardon" written all over the speakers. I know HK is not even close to B&W but when other models at almost same price as X7 are getting an upgrade why not in X7. I mean we spending >90k on X7 so don't mind spending few G's more to get the upgrade but they are not even offering the option to upgrade.. it's a shame on BMW part..

I checked every single option on the X7 i40. When I got production number I realized the audio issue.

Sounds like definitely a $2k upgrade with Bimmertech or Bavsound now...

Our X7 is on approach. Supposed to have arrived at the Richmond, CA VPC on 3/28. Dealership says within a week after arrival at the VPC. I noticed the audio system issue also after we ordered it. We'll have to listen to it when it arrives at the dealership. Not sure what alternatives are available.

If you are already suspecting you'd be disappointed, you really will be when the car arrives. The HiFi system is really that bad… it's time to order bavsound and bimmertech amp
