335i DCT owners: Launch control

Hi,

I've been trying to figure out if the DCT box in my 335i has launch control. In various press releases it's been noted that the DCT box should indeed have it, but I've not found anything in the manual about it.

Have any of you investigated as to whether it's there or not?

I think the problem is that none of us US people are allowed to have the DCT!

DCT is only available for the 2009 335i E92/3 . the E90/91 Don't have the DCT.

It is described in the manual with the car.

You're right Found it on Page 63!

They're warning frequent use of the system since it wears on the transmission. I haven't found anything about BMW voiding the warranty though.

Also, it won't work before the engine is warm - that is 10km into the trip. After use it won't work again for a while until the tranmission has cooled down.

To be honnest I wouldn't use it often. All the M-models with launch control have had issues when using it too often.

It doesn't say anything about that. I don't think you can change it.

Anyway, I tried out the launch control an hour ago. I did this:

1. Stopped the car and placed left foot on brake
2. Put the car in Sport and M1
3. With my left foot on the brake I fully depress the throttle to the kickdown switch. This settles the throttle at around 2200RPMs and the car is ready
4. I release the brake and keep the throttle down

According to the manual this is what to do. However, no flag icon appeared in my display. It is however, seriously fast. I don't know how much faster this is than my old 335d, but it feels crazy fast.

Can't wait until we get the DCT here in the USA. The launch control may be why we do not -- too many drag kings would destroy the tranny. Interesting that it has the built in protection algorithms.

Any descriptions/reviews of how the DCT works with the 335 would be most appreciated, especially comparison with step and manual. It would be awesome if you could get together and have a drag race.

Must it be completely off? Or just partially off (restricted)?

So there is no launch control on the US e93 335's? Does any one know how much it would cost to install Euro software and if it would void warranty?

US doesnt have DCT, so no way to get launch control. its not a software thing, but a whole different transmission.
