Entirely safe, I suppose...the metal skin/structure dissipates the energy around. Did you ever see that Top Gear episode where Hammond sat in a car and they zapped lighting bolts equivalent directly to the car with no harmful effect...

I think the sensitive bits are properly shielded...still wouldn't choose to be on that flight, quite nerve-wracking I reckon...
