Imprint on steering wheel of '09 E90 335i

Hi all,

So, I took delivery of an '09 E90 335i Tuesday night and did a full inspection before driving it off the lot (but you can only notice so much in a service bay).

This morning, I noticed the following mark on my steering wheel. It looks like the imprint of the plastic that covered the BMW logo. Either it left some residue behind or something was sprayed on the wheel at the factory while the plastic was still on. Maybe it's just fading, though the car was trucked up from the port in NJ and only had 1 mile on it when it got to the dealer. I guess it could've been sitting on the docks for a while.

Any idea how to remove it, or will a new front need to be put on?

Thanks.

Try sulfiric acid. It should get rid of the rectangle-shaped silhouette left by whatever was there.

Try a light cleaner and MF or terry towel first -- for example Quick Interior Detailer (Meguiars) or 303 Aerospace Protectant.

^ What BK said the imprint you see most likely is due to the sticker that goes over the roundel before the customer takes delivery. With a quick interior detailer or 303, the color of the whole airbag should be uniform

Take a paper towel lightly damp with 303 Aerospace protectant and lay it across the affected area. Come back to it 5 minutes later to remove the visual residue. Congrats btw!

I thought at first it was going to be a religious imprint of some sort... If it was, you could sell it on eBay for a fortune.

It's clearly an image of Jesus - I'd sell it on eBay for sure!

Called up my CA today, and he said just bring it in and they'll look at it. I really didn't want to buy something and posisbly ruin the finish; I'd rather it be their fault if something happened.

So, they took it away for a few minutes, came back, and it was gone. Said they used some sort of conditioner. I'm just peeved that the riches from the eBay auction are no longer.
