I'm remodeling a walk in shower in a condo.
(when I had a house I had barn door hinged glass doors in the showers and I didn't think they were ideal)

Now I'm thinking about using a shower curtain. Are curtains a bad idea ?

Maybe look at one of those curved shower curtain rods to give you more room? One of our bathroom shower stalls has a door that needs to be replaced. I'm seriously considering a curtain with a curved rod instead of a new door.

Do a half or waist heigh or any combination. Doesn't have to be a door per se. Have fun with it.

Everyone has a different opinion it seems. Anyway, not a fan of curtains (glass door is so much more better in addition to being more 'luxurious', besides avoiding looking like showering at the local Y) or half-walls (thinking of those movie shower scenes at a supermax lol). I'd go for the usual glass door.

curtain till your budget can afford the glass door/doors. Curtain also does not require a squeegee after every use but looks tacky. I finally had my door installed last fall cost 4k. 36 in door and 24 in side panel.

Im maybe damned but not for having a shower cabin with 2 half glass doors to close it
A con for the curtain is the heavy chalked (natural) water in Germany and this is resting after a longer time at the surface of all curtains. After several weeks w/o constantly cleaning this would appear as shadows and that looks awkward.
A glas door is much more easier and quicker to clean and dries better. Germany over!

All y'all just gave me inspiration for my shower design for the Garage Mahal!

My biggest peeve with most current designs is stepping out of the shower with wet feet onto the floor. By installing a center wall and making the shower floor with sloped drains on both sides of the wall, the shower head can spray away from the shower entryway and water would need to make *two* 90-degree bends before it can splash out onto the regular bathroom floor. Plus, that space behind the shower head becomes a drying area, with a towel bar to dry off before stepping out onto the bathroom floor. I could probably even get away with a foot-wiping mat at the bottom right before stepping out into the bathroom:

Concur, I like a nice steamy shower.

And no on the curtain, like ever. Gross and they touch you.

My guest bath has curtain and I want to ditch it for a door, the shower is framed to take one so it wouldnt be a big deal, I just need to do it.

Not just them, all over europe. Seems newer places are starting to put in fully enclosed showers but hotels all over the place had that pointless little glass partition.

When I build I'm going with doors on my walk-in/stand up shower.

Easier to clean often
Stays closed/sealed

I hate getting cold drafts around the edges of curtains since they never seat against a wall. And when I was overseas the bottoms always sucked into the shower against your legs and feet and drove me insane.

Why not go full european?

• So small you can barely fit
• semi mouldy curtain that never really closes properly
• floor slopes away from the drain and into general bathroom area
• shower head sprays water in all directions, especially over tub edge and onto bathroom floor
• floor has little to no edge frame height so water runs out into bathroom area

OMG, yes, it's so true! Are there no building and plumbing codes, or even an understanding that water flows downhill, in Europe?

This was a little card in the bathroom of our Air BnB in Paris a few years back.

I think about shower design in terms of comfort and air circulation. I want the shower warm and draft free in use, but I want very good air circulation when not in use to thoroughly dry the tile/grout and prevent mold.

For a walk-in I prefer 3/4 height glass on interior walls and a door that swings both ways. With a ceiling HVAC vent not far from the glass, and the door open, there is good circulation for drying it after use. With a ceiling extraction fan, moist air is pulled out during use.

Curtains for tub/shower combos only. I prefer glass for the look, but curtains are easier to replace (and thus don’t need as much cleaning), and if you have wee ones it is much more comfortable to sit on a tub edge without the glass track. The curved rods are great for allowing a bit more elbow room.

Also, seal the grout (and tile if not glazed) before the first use. Much easier to keep clean and mold-free.

It's fucking incredible. Even in nice hotels i'm like WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU PEOPLE THINKING????????????????

Water flows, downhill! Inevitably all towels used to soak up water all over the damn floor.
