Netflix or HBOMax?

I can only pick one ... I only want to pick one.

I've had NF since 2011 continuously. I'm just not seeing any volume of things I want to watch anymore. Seems to be in part to them not being the only game in town anymore. I haven't seen a new movie in quite a while, something that was in a theater first.

Just signed up for HBO on a whim. Looked at what there was and figured the cost to rent what I wanted to watch would cover a years subscription.
I can't say that about NF.

I also have Prime, and Hulu/Disney (through Verizon). Odds are I'll dump Prime also; they have lost me with never meeting shipping deadlines (for the last 3 years).

I switched from Netflix to HBOMax a couple months ago. There is just nothing on Netflix. HBO has a ton of good movies and shows.

I also canceled Prime for the first time in 10+ years. The streaming service is a joke, but Prime in general hasn't been worth the costs for me, the "two day shipping" has been a week+ for the past year and most things are cheaper at B&M stores now anyway.

Netflix has better shows in my opinion. I have both streaming services and find myself flipping back to Netflix more often.

Life hack: Get whichever service, then trade logins with a family or friend for their service. You heard it here first.

Netflix, although I do enjoy a lot of the content on HBOMax.

I would pick Netflix if I had to pick just one. Way way more content. However, I get HBO Max for free (AT&T incentive for getting their fiber service ).

On top of that I also have Hulu and Amazon Prime. Just not enough time to watch the enormous amount of content available to me.

We've been really enjoying HBO Max. Tons of good movies and shows. Hardly even turn Netflix on any more, only for Ozark and Stranger Things. We have way too many services. Prime, HBO, Netflix, Hulu, Acorns, AMC+ and Disney but yet it's still hard to find something good sometimes. HBO just has so many good older movies it makes it worth it to me. I too get Disney and Hulu for free so that helps.

This is where Disney is being smart, Boba Fett being released one episode a week is where it's at. Allowing people to binge all episodes all at once is going to be a killer to subscribers in the long run. I bet all services start to do this at some point especially since Netflix subscriber numbers aren't doing well.

I don’t think I pay for any of them directly. I have HBO because my HOA includes cable and HBO there so I get access to HBO Max. I get Netflix from my friend and also Disney+ from him. I do pay for Prime but rarely watch stuff there. We had Hulu through my girlfriends sprint phone up until recently, she switched off sprint so we lost Hulu.

As others have mentioned if I had to pay for these I would probably pick one and watch all the stuff that interests me then cancel and switch to a different one. Hopefully by the time I’m done with that one more stuff is added to the others services and I can keep switching back and forth.

I also tend to watch a lot of YouTube. Especially when it’s more background TV that’s on while I’m doing other stuff.

Just my thoughts but it seems like a cyclical problem that all the services will run into eventually. The other services are finally starting to stand up but seem largely reliant on existing catalogs of show/movies but people are attracted to them since Netflix didn't have licensing rights to them (or lost them). There are a few good shows but I doubt enough to keep a given service standing on its own. Eventually people lose interest and cancel for something else.

Similarly, people will cancel subscriptions to services that put out single episodes then re-subscribe on occassion to catch better pricing and watch whole seasons or series on their schedule, not the networks. Not saying this is everyone but the ability to binge or batch watch seems to be very popular.

My wife and son both really like Netflix. Not sure HBOMax has the child content Netflix has.

I have:

Amazon Prime
HboMax
Netflix
Disney+

I have watched far more TV over the past year than in recent memory.
By far... Netflix has waaaaaaay more overall content: Movies and Shows. Particularly, original content. It's not even close!
I would suggest some of you broaden your viewing scope. You are probably missing out on tons of great original series and movies, including foreign.
HBOMax is a great option with multiple addional genre channels built in, like Crunchyroll. Excellent original shows too.
Prime follows the pack but I still want it for having excellent fantasy genre which I enjoy.
Disney+ because my entire household are Marvel and Star Wars fans.

It's a stand alone British broadcast service. I've sampled it on my Android devices via VPN.

I have Prime Video and I can't stand the software. It's such second rate compared to Netflix. It makes me not even want to watch it tbh.

I use HBO Max for HBO television...Sopranos, Entourage, etc. I use Netflix for their original movies and they have a really good selection of 90s action movies also which is my fav genre.
