Every time I start climatization from within the app, steering wheel heating is also turned on.

This happens even when outside temperature is around mid 70s and I have steering wheel heating activation set at below 55F.

Note that this doesn't happen when scheduled climatization rules kick in, it only happens when I press the climatization button on the iOS app.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

The opposite is true for me. The wheel or seat heating won't turn on even though it's 20 degrees here but the vents will be running. I adjusted the settings and still nothing.

My heated steering wheel always activates with remote start as well, with both the app and key fob. I wonder if this will continue to happen in the coming Spring/Summer.

Wish the seat hating would turn on when remote started. Seems really strange it doesn't.

It depends on what version of iDrive you are using. It has been going back and forth for a few years now as to whether the remote start does the seat heating. I think for the last few major versions it does. I have 11/2021.50 and the seat heater comes on (only tested with touch and not a thermometer). The lights signifying the heating do not though until you hit the Start button.

Same issue with my ‘22 M50i (steering wheel heat turns on). I’ve also noticed that although the A/C is set to 72 or 74, the air temperature always feels much warmer when I get in the car after a remote start has run for 5-10 minutes. I thought maybe I had put in wonky climate control rules, but nope. They look fine. No idea how to fix this??

Seat heating (or ventilation) comes on after I get in the car and push the starter if the outside temp is lower/higher than my rule.

Not sure what software version I’m on, but it says it’s up to date (no updates available).

you'll have to go into your iDrive remote software upgrade section to see which version you have. note, it's almost always a few months behind the most recent version due to rollout lag
