road trip

Just a FYI - this past weekend I was able to average 31.0 mpg and get over 500 miles to a single tank during an overnight trip to Northern NH.

2008 E92 328i.

She even did pretty well in the light snow with partially slush-covered roads!

The ride up I-93 is spectacular with all of the mountain scenery. I highly recommend it for all of you who live in Boston, etc.

Did you drive the Kangamangus Highway? ... be careful though, at this time of the year you may get stuck in snow up there... and the help may not arrive for days!

I've done the K-highway (Rt.112) a bunch of times, but not this time. It's an excellent road though, I agree. And yeah, you can get into big trouble if there's weather.

This time I was on Rt.302; in and around Mt. Washington. Spectacular!

Never driven there ^, perhaps should try it next time. It's one of my rituals, when spring rolls in, I de-winterize the M3 and take if for a nice 2-3 hour ride usually up to NH.

Thats super. By means of comparison, I got 7.4 l/100 km (32 mpg) in a 550 km drive from Munich to Portorož in the 730d.

Yeah, I am only getting ~21 so far... mostly because I have uncontrollable urges in my left foot.

Sounds good about a ride to NH... by then I should be a father too so hopefully some things I don't have to give up.

Tell me you were only testing this car... I swear I initially thought that's a Lexus.

Do you work for Roundel BTW?

I had to give it back, yes. Super car, though. And I do write for www.bmwcca.org and the Roundel.

Yes Jspira...you technical guru. Did you like the Idrive? Did it provide options for invading Poland? hehehe

Clearly contributing to Roundel does have its advantages.

Speaking of BMW Diesel technology my wife & I are discussing the virtures of the X5 diesel....it would easily pull the horse trailer & seat 6.

We have a Komen drive this Friday & I am hoping they have one of the Diesel engines avaliable.

For what its worth I have squeezed 34 MPG out of the 330i. Thats according to the trip computer. Thats with a K&N air filter & Groupem replica.

The new CIC-based iDrive, as implemented in the 7er, with the 10,2" display, is incredible. The controller is very logical to use (most of the time), screen resolution is incredible, the speed-limit display is useful (esp. if you weren't sure if you just passed into a 120 km/h zone) and so on.

So how do you get those cars to test drive? Does the magazine hook you up?

No, the magazine (if you mean the Roundel) has nothing to do with it.

I get several press cars in a normal month in the U.S. (all different brands) which I then write about. Normally, getting a car in Europe is no different but I was lucky enough to get one of the first available new 7ers because I put my request in very early.

At risk of going off topic....

stitched leather dash/trim?

OEM on previous generation 7er?

I assume from the looks of the diesel you drove is it an option?

Like I can really afford a brand new 7 series.

Ja, it is an option. Nice option though. I think EUR 1200. Not sure though.
