Coding Fix For Dimming Due To Tint!!!

I know that the dimming dash has been a long time issue for many with tinted windows. There has been a coding fix posted in the main thread but I thought that it needed it's own post over here. I can't take credit for this but I can confirm that it is working on the G20s. Here it is...

It can be done in Bimmercode expert mode...

Headunit
3005 APIX_CID_UND_ZIN
DIM_CURVE_X2
change values to 0x00, 0x00 (from 0x1F, 0xC0)

Instrument cluster
3000 Anzeige_Konfiguration
DIM_TAG_NACHT_LICHT_EIN_ENABLE
change value to aktiv

Instrument cluster
3005 FuBi_Parameter
DIM_DTN
change value to 0x7F (from 0x3F)

After programming the codes above, go to Car/Settings/Displays/Control display and change the “Brightness at night” to it’s lowest value. Then use the standard I.P. scroll wheel to set a comfortable light level in darkness.

So you had daytime dimming issues due to tinting, and this fixed it? What is the end result for daytime brightness? The dash still dims up and down, but the overall brightness level is higher? It's a bit confusing that the fix references night time dimming…to my knowledge night time dimming has never been an issue as it's always been manually controlled.

Yes mine was dimming during the day because of the tint.

With the above coding it's now bright during the day, dimmed down at night and controllable with the scroll wheel.

I'd pretty much given up on a fix for this. Hope this works! I have a new M40i I was hesitant to tint because of the problems with my 330i.

I coded this yesterday on 2021 M340i with 11/2021 software and it works as described.

Note that it is not required to turn down "brightness at night" all the way down. This will still control "additional" brightness of the iDrive screen ONLY relative to the physical brightness dial (next to headlight controls) position. Turning "brightness at night" all the way down effectively makes the iDrive brightness match the cluster brightness, but if you want extra boost on the iDrive brightness, you can still use "brightness as night" for this purpose.

Thanks clone1008 for posting this!!! Works great and took care of the annoying problem with having tinted windows on the car.

clone1008 Thanks for posting. This fix seems different than the control screen fix which changes the value from "brightness at night" to "brightness" which allows you to have the control screen bright during the day but not the cluster or HVAC gauges.

Can you explain if this is a different fix and how it impacts the control screen?

I would love to get my cluster at the same brightness but don't want to make the control screen dimmer.

This did not fix the issue for me idk why. When I was driving today the cluster was still dim. When I flashed a light into the IR sensor then it went bright again.

Did BMW ever fix this issue in the 2021/2022 models? I see more people complaining that have a MY20 (like I had with the same problem).

I had my 2022 MY car tinted recently (35%) and haven’t noticed a dimming yet.

Coded this myself this morning and went driving around for about an hour between sunny and cloudy weather and it seems fine now. Manually toggling the headlights on and off and it seems to dim correctly. Thanks!

Did you actually save and code it?
