Do the maintenance or trade?

I love my 335i but lately I've been considering trading my 2007 335i for a newer one or lower mileage one. I'm currently bone stock besides an upgraded charge pipe and at 103,000 miles. Does it make sense to do the maintenance and upgrade with bolt-ons at the mileage I'm at? Or does it make more sense to trade for one with less mileage?

It almost always makes more sense financially to fix.

New car means car payment and higher monthly insurance(in most cases)

Even if it was 3k in maintenance that is paid off in 6 months at $500 a month. I would almost guarantee you will spend more per month on an 'upgrade'

But it is your money. Do what you will. Newer also means an n55 most likely.

Get mhd. Load up a tune. Go FBO. You only live once. Your 335i will be faster than the n55 you 'upgrade' to.

I have owned my ‘09 335 for 5.5 years, it’s been paid of and the only costs are insurance, gas and maintenance. At 133K miles, it’s in very good condition, costs $80 a month to keep running and I don’t want a car note. I would get yours up to date on maintenance and enjoy it.

Started modding my 335i at 110k miles.
At 140k miles now with no issues.

Trading right now would not be great. Fix it and wait another year or two for prices to settle.

I got 133k miles on mine with upgraded turbos and it's running great! No car payments and low insurance costs ftw!

It depends - do you want to be on the never ending debt/car payment treadmill?

This question is similar to spending $45,000 on a new car to save 2mpg in gas money.

Clear pattern here, maintain. The miles are not even high.

My sis in-law believes cars blow up when they reach 70k for some reason. It's a lot of money down the drain but she feels that "peace of mind" ( of brand new) is well worth it!

My grandfather would do the same thing...Honestly, new cars have plenty of their own teething problems. I'd take a high mileage, well maintained car/truck that I know is rock solid vs something new and unknown. I'm speaking about something you daily mind you. If this is a fun secondary car, thats another story

You need to give some more info.....what maintenance/issues/problems does the car currently have?

The 335i's with the N54's are definitely cars for guys who like working on cars, tinkering with them, and have a backup car.

If you want something reliable that's always going to get you to work....a 335i probably isn't the car for you. But if you want a car that's fun, fast, and puts a smile on your face (but makes you mad every now and then)...they are worth it.

I just forked up $3k in repairs for my 06 330XI. Its not modded but I love the car! I don't need 2 new cars as well. Got the family car which is new and this is my booting around car.

As my mechanic said (who is also a euro car dealer), cars are at a ridiculous mark up right now (at least in Canada). My car has low mileage (160,000kms) and is now new with the repairs. Makes no sense getting another as you won't know what can happen with that one in a few months.

I could never own my 07' 335i if I couldn't do all of the work on it myself. For the money I would have paid a mechanic to fix/repair/replace all of the things I did to the car in the last two years......I could have probably bought another nice 335i.

But...I like working on cars, so that's why I still have it
